scored 3 1/2 from White Claret crosses years ago on a 4 stag derby in bacolor pampanga, last time we produced enough "well feathered" to enter a full show on a stag competition...

they matured really well, but the problem with ours are, since most are white it's very hard to maintain their feathers, they seem to moult out faster and irregularly than red ones...

by the way they were crossed from a chopseuy BC (multi-win)... we fought 3 pure whites and 1 wine red, the red one drew, got hit first and at dying breath gave the opponent a mean shuffle and both dead at the count...

We tried fyting our Howard Belk Claret-crosses stags to a cock derby against some famous breeder just to test their capability and won convincingly...some are injured badly but manage to kill his opponent in a dragfyt...
Now,the breeding continues... :D

How have you been my friend? If you cross your clarets to a lacy RH, Redfox grey, Black and some hatches they will mature early enough to compete in the stag Derbys.

my good friend mr. manny garcia teaming with rod garcia and mr edwin reyes are fighting jfvance clarets crosses. have been scoring well this season. they are one of the champions of the bbc stag derby. could have won it solo if not losing their last fight (the only grey in their entry). buy a copy of the new p i t g a m e s magazine as well as the collectors series their clarets are featured there.

Kaibigang HAS, be of good spirit dahil ang Belk Claret na ni regalo sa akin ni Pareng ShortKnife at Tito Jun mo at ni Pareng Ed ng DeerSprings ay pareho ng Howard Belk Madigin claret na dugo ay very promising, sa bitaw, they are far superior than our Sweaters and in fact isa sa anak ng original Belk Claret na broodCock over our Madigin Claret blood ay nanalo na ng fastest kill as a stag...They are absolutely not one of the so called "Single Stroke Joke!!!" I crossed the pure belk Madigin claret over our old pure bred Madigin claret like the one in my avatar at lumabas silang angat at very deliberate sa baba....

Just like to know since you have 3 Families of Clarets namely 1.) Hanky Dean 2.) Harold Brown 3.) Madigin ------which one of this families would you prefer to recommend in the LK? or probably would be good to cross with this families?

Thank you for your time

I don't fear anyone in the gaff with my H.H. Moore's, they are as strong & game as any power cocks, with the cut of a Claret... but... I'd hate like hell ta meet Mikes in any sorta knife ( long or short ) if it were still legal.

Well slip, i guess your telling me that it would be a very difficult task to best him and his roosters in a short knife main. I am well aware to a certain degree of what it would require to best him and his beautiful clarets in a main, and i do like the looks of his clarets, in fact i love the old hh moore clarets. I use to work for a fellow about 18 yrs ago who had and fought the genuine hh moore clarets, so i am pretty familiar with them in general, so i would pretty much to great degree with about a 1% margin of error know what to expect on that part. Now a few years back i sort of knew a fellow that told me Mr.Everett taught him how to feed out, now i really dont know if he was telling me the truth, but i did disscus with him to some degree what he said Mr.Everett taught him, and ill say this, he had been around someone that knew what they were doing,so having said that, i have a pretty good idea what i would be up against on that part, that is if Mr.Everett did teach him as he said, but that really doesnt matter to me anyway. I never underestimate anyone anyway and it wouldnt alter how i feed out anyway. Now on the knife part, i would just have to assume his roosters would be knifed up correctly, which i would expect anyway and handled correctly in the pit. Now Mr. Everett might do it all himself or go get someone to do it for him or get someone to help him, that i dont know, but no matter what, if he and i lived in say mexico, and i could afford or could save up the stakes it would take, it would be intensly on my mind all the time to match him a main, with him and his roosters even knowing what i know.

When you say that H B Clarets are not Madigan Clarets, I assume you mean they are different to some extent as opposed to being unrelated, right? As Col. Madigan originated the Clarets how could H B's not be Madigan's?

Irishcutt,
Thank you very much for the information about the clarets that you have for a long time and for them to fight in 1 1/2'' gaff shows that they have gameness which is very hard to find in a claret nowadays.here in the Philippines,Matt Dunne is fighting them with high winning percentage,i believe they(clarets) came from you and from the info about the history of your clarets and how your family had them for many years and still remain solid and the people who fight them successfully.I believe you have the best Claret blood today.

I have been using the claret lines I got from Butch for about 10yrs now, they are the best claret line I have seen and I have been doing very well with them, I use them pure, and crossed, infact we were champion in the Ornca 3 cock last saturday using 2 pure red clarets they are now 4 time winners and off to the broodpen.
The white line have a very offbeat style they do well very pure but are awesome crossed to the Roundhead line I have.
These are very solid lines and I am proud to own them

I want to thank Slipspur for posting the pictures, I throughly enjoyed his visit. To Bullhide..I am honored that you deem me worthy of a Main challenge, it would have been fun. I do know how to tie the SK, but "Robinhood" tied the Filipino knife for me, other times I managed to get a Von socket knife on them, LOL. Back to the Main I would much have perfered a gaff Main to test in, than Sk, because I feel that is a better test of Gamefowl. Thou when it was legal I did enjoy fighting in all heels.
Out of curousity I was wondering who the person is that you are referring to as far as the "training" was concerned.

I never fought a main... I was challenged to one once by a fella that got mad that I whipped him so easy in a derby... when I accepted & chose the 1 1/4 peg n awl as our weapon ( the challenged gets to pick what weapons to be used ), he decided that he didn't want any part of it ( I had ran him off in L/H's ). I've always considered a main challenge to be some sorta grudge match because of that I suppose. If a man just wanted to meet into the best just to see where he stands... Mike would be a good one to try... you'd best bring yer A game tho LOL!

Cigar Claret just recently settling in the Philippines (3-4 yrs).
When crossed, it picks up that station for our type of knife.
As PURE, it comes medium. It can still hold our type of steel, pure gameness and cutting.
we fought a bunch now as pure on these and it can hold its ground and also drag to win.
Not yet in the big fights but its just a matter of time.

CYMRU,

There's a lot of Claret breeders in P.I. that didn't make good with what they have. But the best Claret I know that made history in P.I. is owned by "Digoy" Montinola. It was not pure actually but the offspring crossed to Hatches were superb for several decade. a family of hens were crossed to Jim Guanco of famed "Pawarat" who won solo in Candelaria for two consecutive years. the other was used by 'Bokay" Gonzales to win two consecutive breeders derby in Tangub. Another line crossed to Rubbles of Julius Lanzar won The Candelaria and there are more that it's too long for me to mention or not worth mentioning....this Claret came from J.D. Perry.

-Oplod-

Oplod, in 1991 I met a very good friend, son of Julius Lanzar's first cousin, we had the opportunity to fight those Ruble-Claret of Mr. Lanzar you mentioned here. Those were hand pick at Mr. Lanzar's farm in San Enrique, Negros Occ. by my friend, medium station, yellow legged, straight comb, they were excellent fighting cocks indeed, Defense was their best Offense, great timing and cutting accuracy, fast and also excellent in the drag, every time an opponent comes in, those Ruble-Claret releases multiple frontal shuffles... next thing you know is... time to collect the papers. It was memorable time having those Lanzar's Ruble-Claret. Thanks for mentioning them here in this thread. Also, those nice Ruble-Teroy the MAN got in those days.

I dont believe this ever happened either.

Bullcreeklodge who are you to say that never happened? Were you there or even in the United States to know that? Why would he have to prove anything to you and as far as I know Mike Everett does not sell many roosters either and from what I hear and Ive been to Slipspurs place and he doesnt have a reason to mislead anyone.

Why would he have to prove anything to you and as far as I know Mike Everett does not sell many roosters either and from what I hear and Ive been to Slipspurs place and he doesnt have a reason to mislead anyone.

QUESTION...Bullcreeklodge who are you to say that never happened?
ANSWER...I did not say it never happened...i sayed(I dont believe this ever happened either.) If i understand him right he stated that mike won 10 straight then with the same exact roosters won another 10 straight...in the shortknife. That is 20 stright in the shortknife with the same 10 roosters...Ill say it again...except ill state it more properly...i would have to see it to believe it.
QUESTION...Were you there or even in the United States to know that?
ANSWER...I would say instead of asking me if i saw it...you should be asking slipspur if he saw mike do this or knows any one personally that did see it.
QUESTION...Why would he have to prove anything to you and as far as I know Mike Everett does not sell many roosters either and from what I hear
ANSWER...He doesnt have to prove anything to me...nor do i have to prove anything to him...i dont recall asking him to prove anything to me.
QUESTION...and Ive been to Slipspurs place and he doesnt have a reason to mislead anyone.
ANSWER...By posting on here and insinuating that i was a vegetarian because he did not agree with what i posted...and i assume he was saying i was ***...is a misrepresentation of the facts to me...And i have learned through the years...that how a person is around you or treats you, is not always the case with someone else.

I understand Mr. Bullcreeklodge, JimmyCrackCorn, and JackSpratt is someone called Jack Fargo..this may or may not be true, he may or may not be a good chickenman. I don't know. Whoever he is I feel sorry for him, to live with such a twisted mind must be a terrible burden....I have never claimed to have the best Clarets there is, just good ones and every bird I ever campained was mine or a close friends, never bought. Truth be told if I was into selling fowl he has been good business for me, I've had more offers than I could ever fulfil. And if I was I was a peddler I would be scowering the woods for Claret Looking fowl. Folks how many of you have gotten fowl from me and payed one dime? And didn't Jack say he had sixteen up for $1000 apiece. He has called me a liar, challenged a main, and threatend me, sent hate mail sprewd with malice, all while hiding behind his multi-personalities. If he wants to show up as himself I might take him seriously..All you folks have a good day and I'm sorry you have to put up with this.

Seems alot of post and repost on here has nothing to do with the title. This helps the rest of us that usually only skim through looking for good ideas to be discouraged. I would not blame the administrator to start blocking some and maybe change the forum rules from English to something like Tagalog. We need to get back to being focused on the issues, questions and assistance to others in the sport and not brag of our accomplishments that are meaningless unless it contributes to the fraternity. This type of nonsense is what resulted in the demise of "Gamefowl.com" which was one good place for everyone to help each other and communicate properly like gentlement of the sport. I hope you folks start to understand the negative impacts of our childish comments.

Try it, no bull it works. I am not the only one that uses it. It may sound foolish, but you will never know until you try it. I have used WD40 many times for ear infections and lice eggs stuck to tail feathers and it work without any harm to my fowl. I got this information some time back on Gamefowl.com. Irishcut, Slipspur and many others from Gamefowl.com would know about WD40. No Joke, nor Bull. I would not post anything that I have not tried or have experiences. I am too old for games and have been with gamefowl for over 40 years now. I am an old Vietnam Vet and proud of it and would not knowingly give anyone bad information nor walk away from a good firefight. I am always locked and loaded on my farm. Several snares and pits have been created in the jungle around my farm. So far only wild dogs and hogs have tried their luck. There is nothing more I can't stand is a crook. I also have very thin skin nowadays when it concerns my gamefowl.

I have a friend in Tennesse that breeds some killer Griffin Claret... YELLOW LEGGED / BLACK SPURS... He won cocker of the year twice in a row using these warriors. Excellent deep cutters, smart, and vertical breakers... One of the best I've seen. He use to live close to me but he move to the Tennesse mountain 2 years ago. I infuse them to my Sweaters with outstanding results. He's not one of those sell sell sell guy but if you happen to be one of his friend, he'll let you have one. I try to convince him to market his lines of Roundhead, Yellow legged Hatch and Griffin... cause he's trying to cut down a bit... He's been a cocker for all his life and he's been holding these lines for yearssss. I took him to PI 3 tears ago when I compete in the WSD and he end up marrying a Pinay (pullet). His about 60 years old...

Rom, this was what I saw when I visited Ray:

Pre buhawi,

In my recollection, MG didn't win any of the three fights against my friend at VSC derby in Virginia. His (MG)cocks were cut into pieces by the knife made in Valladolid and tied by yours truly

maning
well, in fairness to Mike gentry. Like Mang Maning, I used to be regular at VSC when i was in the service, Station in Norfolk. I was with a group. we used to show under SASMOAN entry. In my opinion Mike Gentry got decent breed of chickens. they throws a lot of feet. Deadgame. they uses american socket knife and i noticed that they love using really long sockets. Thats probably one reason why they cant win majority of their fights.

To All Our Beloved Cockmates Can You Please Post Your Best Experience,on What Is The Best Cross For A Claret Bloodline That Really Show Good Result In Our Lk Show In P.i. Any Info Will Be Much Appreciated.yours Truly--q.g.

we used a 3-way. crossed the white claret (zamboanga) to roundhead. and then crossed the outcome (white pullet) to our grey broodcock. the outcome 7 stags (amazingly no pullets came out) 6wins 1draw. at present, 3 of the 7stags has 3wins, 1 has four wins. the other 2 were sold as stags and has one win each (we have yet to be informed if they were fought again).
BTW, all the stags came out white in color (sarasa).

You guys all have nice Clarets. Thanks for sharing those pictures

Can someone share some info about Buzzsaw Clarets? What were they made of? I saw some Buzzsaws from an old breeder here in Georgia. They were not like the typical Claret - his are light to medium red, peacombed, yellow legs with white streamers on tails (really looks like YLH). He said he got them direct from Charlie Eidt years ago.

I'm starting to get interested with this line of Claret. I think they would cross well with my YLM.

I'll appreciate any input.

Thanks,

I knew Bob Bennett pretty good and talked with him many times about his fowl. We both knew and got fowl from the same source one time. He got his clarets from Mr. Gabe Jones of Illinois and we (my dad) got a claret cock from Gabe one time for loaning him some gaffs at a derby in the 50's..Those clarets were and still are Madigans!!! Unless Bob added some knew blood before he passed away they were still the same lines. I got two white clarets stags from him several years ago to add to my whites to keep from inbreeding.

Griffin called them Clarets.

I got my MG from John(butch) 4 years ago. He told me the story of the Col. Madigan. If I remember correctly Col M. bought some birds and let them go in the middle of a Horse race track. He came back years later and he found two types of straight combed birds. He found the reds and the greys. He seperated the birds and started to breed straight reds and straight greys. Once in a while the greys throw a red and reds throw a grey. For the whole story get with John, i do not remember the whole story.

Thanks Butch and Mike for your replies. I only have a hen but a red madigin. The guy I got her from told me that he got them madigins after Bob passed away from his wife. I haven't tried them yet. Once curious about the stallcup to try with her but did not pursue. Right now I am trying Cigar Cock of my friend to her. Looks promising. Clarets of Leon Morgan the white ones are good, too. (in my opinion because I have seen them in action). Mine come from Tennessee. But I have seen the clarets of Digoy Montinola which are cut cut cut cut. Whiteleggedred, is Bingbong C. breeding this line up to this day? I like them a lot. crossed with a roundhead- is very nice or lemon also.

Mike they were clippers but others called them Duke Hulsey's Clarets cuz he bred to that way. Originally they came straight and peacombed. But Duke always bred to the straight combed claret looking side. Thats' one reason Duke never called them Madigans', HH Moores, Griffins or any other names. Just clarets!!! He did give credit to the Marsh's on his Butchers tho. and advertised them as Marsh Butchers. It was the Duke Hulsey clipper cock that put Kelso back into the game when Kelso was ready to quit.

I got Ray's Clarets back in the seventies( no longer have them) at that time he said they were Griffens. The Griffen Brothers walked cocks for Madigin. Some say that the hens they used were Claibornes, thus the yellowlegs in the Griffen family.

I got Ray's Clarets back in the seventies( no longer have them) at that time he said they were Griffens. The Griffen Brothers walked cocks for Madigin. Some say that the hens they used were Claibornes, thus the yellowlegs in the Griffen family.

Thanks a lot M.E. for this valuable piece information....

Wendall Chandler of Ala., knew the Griffin Bros., very well and how they bred thier fowl. He said they had several lines of Clarets?..And like Mike said they were crossed with Claibornes. Also some other lines were used to make their Clarets. And yep, Ray's clarets are the Griffins.

Thanks a lot too Irishcutt! You have just confirmed that R.A. Clarets are Griffin Clarets!

It's always good to know a little bit of history behind the bloodline your gonna raise!

Met Elmer Griffins son when I was young...The Madigin Clarets he said were crossed to the Shawlnecks........As they never had a hen they culled all the grades and put a fresh cock whenever the Colonel brought one for them to walk....They had a sugarcane farm somewhere in Alabama/Florida border if I remember correctly....I got offered a trio then and refused..to my regret of course! Shawlnecks were basically whitehackles.

I'm sure they don't have yours. But it could be confusing, they have been around a long time. Like you said, people call them looking for yours. I didn't mean anything , but that the two could be confused. If someone is claiming to have yours, and doesn't... I would want to set things right too.

How come I have the Clarets? Or the Spangle from Mike? I've had the Clarets since 82 & you know I woun't have kept em that long unless they were decent birds. The stag from Mike was a gift & he's a nice booger. My birds are more of a power family... Mikes may soup mine up a notch... they are both H.H. Moore Clarets.

I haven't made any crosses with the Birchens yet... I made pure stuff with em this year... a bunch of em. The crosses will come next season.

I've actually started thinking about the P.I. lately... thing is... I can load my birds up & drive to Mexico... take stuff I don't want to leave behind ( like vehicles & furniture ). What would a good 20 acre or 5 hectare parcel of land in a good area cost?

You can tell Slipspur has put alot of thought, time, money, and energy in his setup. Moreover, his fowl show it. If I was looking for good foundation gamefowl, I would be beating a path to his yard. I don't think you fellas could go wrong in getting any of his proven bloodlines.

slip,

If I remember right, the Buzzsaws were some sort of Claret Blend... prolly of some kind of Rh. What mine are is the H.H. Moore Clarets... Mr. Moore infused Lowman Whitehackle into the Madigan Clarets, thus making them H.H. Moore's... I occassionally get some cocks that have the lighter coloring of a Lowman... but I've never gotten a P head like I've seen on some Buzzsaws... I think Charles Eidt made those, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :D

hmmmm.....
it may be best to rent for a few years before you invest on lands...
rent would not hurt you that much.
There are so many good areas back home and each have their own price range...
It's best to go for a fun trip ... survey the area and enjoy the derby's.
