Traveling Stags is one of the hardest things to do. Especially when you get to the pit and one goes off bad. We try to get our stags we are preparing for stag season ready about 2 months before derby time. After we select all the matured stags from the cord we start putting them in boxes from time to time, sometimes in the morning after scratching and sometimes in the noontime before their snack, we like to be unpredictable about it when at this point. We start out with just 10 minutes and work up to as much as 45 minutes. When we take them out of the box, we spray them with water and rub them a little. Sometimes we even tail them up good when they come out of the box. Some of our stags are kicked out the keep by this method, some just cannot take it, so their out. The last 10 days not only do we put them in boxes in the morning, we also set up the portable folding derby pens and put them in there for 20-30 minutes after snack time. The last 3 days we do not do this; we just rest them and keep them comfortable and fresh. We try to replicate the derby scenario so the stags will be accustom to there surroundings at the pit. Remember this is just the way we travel our stags...There are as many ways as there are cockfighters!!!
Traveling long distance is another task...Last year Bakbakan Semi-Finals we traveled 6 stags from Northern Leyte to Cebu City by Boat (13 hours total trip from our farm to Talisay Sports Complex) and none went off. All 6 were useable. Who said Luck don't play a part in Sabong......

Stags have varied reactions when they are placed inside a carrying box. This process of travelling them for 10 to 15 minutes, will familiarize them from being placed in a different surrounding and scenario.

It might be funny, but you'll be surprised that there are some stags..?? that refuse to fight, right after being taken, 'out of the box'.

You have to be extremely gentle, in handling high strung roosters especially "nervous stags" so that they can easily adapt and adjust...once they are placed in a different environment.

with stags our method is to put in travel boxes and take them for a drive 10min to 20min, when we get back we have loud music playing and we dump them (limber ) we also let of fireworks the loud bang type, and place in resting stalls for 1hr then limber again and spar. We always have bright colours, loud noise and movement while the stags are limbering and sparing.
