Tough New Texas Cockfighting Law Now In Effect
The Humane Society of the United States worked to pass HB1043 in 2011 legislative session
In Texas, it is now illegal for individuals to attend cockfights, possess birds with the intent to fight, and sell and possess the razor sharp weapons that are designed to increase the bloodletting in cockfights. The Humane Society of the United States, on behalf of its more than 500,000 supporters in Texas, celebrates this measure’s passage and thanks Rep. Wayne Christian, R-District 9, and Sen. Eddie Lucio, D-District 27, for championing HB 1043 through the process.

“Closing these loopholes is essential in cracking down on the entire cast of characters involved in cockfighting,” said Nicole Paquette, Texas senior state director for The ****. “The spectators fuel this illegal activity and implementation of this new law will send a strong message that cockfighting will not be tolerated in the Lone Star state.”

Cockfighting is a cruel activity involving the deliberate pitting of animals against each other to fight to the death for the sole purpose of gambling and the entertainment of spectators. Roosters used for fighting are often drugged to heighten their aggression and forced to keep them fighting even after they’ve suffered severe injuries such as deep gashes, punctured lungs, and pierced eyes. Young children are often brought to these events and exposed to the gruesome spectacle as acceptable entertainment.

The **** conducted two investigations into cockfighting in Texas which showed that this crime is widespread throughout the state. In 2010, undercover investigators attended cockfights at nearly 20 pits throughout Texas and documented about 100 locations where cockfights are regularly held. Investigators used hidden cameras to document repeated acts of animal cruelty as well as the presence of young children, widespread illegal gambling, and prostitution. The **** investigative team also went undercover in April, 2011 with ESPN E: 60 into a cockfighting ring in Gunter, Texas which highlighted the need for stronger laws to ensure that all participants in the illegal activity are charged with a crime.

Enactment of HB 1043 provides law enforcement with the tools to crackdown on this illegal activity and aligns Texas’s laws with neighboring states and most of the country. The **** stands ready to assist law enforcement in their efforts.

The Lobbying Disclosure act of 1995 requires any person or entity that lobbies at the Federal Level to Register with the Clerk of the U. S. House of Representatives and with the Secretary of the Senate, and to file quarterly and semi-annual reports. "Lobbying" is defined in this Act as having as few as ONE CONTACT - - THAT IS RIGHT " ONE CONTACT" - - with a Member of Congress or a member of their staff, or a Senior Member of the Executive Branch (e.g. USDA) for the purpose of attempting to influence Federal Legislation or Policy. Downloaded documentation from the Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives reveals "NO RECORDS" for any of the above six entities and individuals, notwithstanding the supporting documentation that suggests the number of direct and indirect "contacts" for the above six referenced entities and individuals may number in the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS. In theory, there would be a total of 186 violations over the last five years, and if that number is multiplied by the maximum penalty for non-compliance of $50,000 for each violation, that would amount to a potential cumulative fine of $9.3 MILLON!!!!! While I do not believe that such a large fine would ever be assessed, just the theoretical possibility of such a large fine brings a smile to my face!
The Assistant U.S. Attorney who is reviewing the Complaint is a Mr. Keith Morgan. I know he is reviewing the Complaint because I have spoken to him on the phone on three different occasions.

Obama would have signed it too. Hell, Obama voted for it. But under W we were tough on terrirosts, and had better policies. Bush HAD to sign the transportation law. Remember, Michael Vick had been charged with that just days before Bush had to sign or veto. He couldnt veto under that spotlight. I bet the ***'s timed it that way on purpose, so Vick was busted right when the law was on his desk.

Honestly I do too much investigating into this for you to want to argue the point of this with me. You're speaking from ignorance because you haven't done the investigative work looking into everything.

George Bush signed the free trade agreement with Columbia, embraced the super highway from Canada down through Mexico and his dad George H spoke in support of "a new world order" during his 1988-92 presidency.

Many of the very policies that were implemented when George W was President are in violation of your constitutional rights but you embrace them because you believe in George W.

If President Obama had inplemented the same policies you would call him a socialist traitor to the constitution.

What you're failing to watch is that Bush and Obama are both just front men for the elitist behind the government that are really pulling the strings. By always controlling which candidates each party runs these elitists always ensure a steady progress toward their agenda of a new world order and a one world socialist government no matter if the Dem or Rep win.
