no legbands available. instead, he was telling me if we
needed wingbands ? told him yes, but next year pa when
we start wingbanding chicks, hehe. they are also giving
us tarpaulin streamers for the derby.
whats in it for them ? theyre requesting for a booth for
their products come derby day.

II working crews - more or less we will be hiring around 30-35
working crews. from the masyadors to the
sweepers and toilet cleaners.

almost all of the key personnel needed at the
derby has been filled in already.


III over-all coordinator - it was agreed that all those present
in the meeting would just have to divide our
time and help in the fast but smooth running
of the derby.

el presidente offered his services to man the
ruweda (squaring of bets) and also the
monitoring of the monton.

doc joey would do a print out of a monton
cash count system where bai ed can easily
view the cash coming in from the fights.

it was also agreed that if possible, we will
hire a gate guard that is not from the city
to ensure that all patrons coming in have
paid their entrance tickets.

yours truly will take care of the food
(pack lunch)for all the working crews. purchase all necessary office supplies (papers,
ballpens,stabilo, pentel pens, stamp pads,
etc.)
have to take care also of the printing of
gate tickets and official receipts.


IV Screening and Leg Banding - evgba members are requested to
help in the registration of entrants, and leg
banding and to ensure the smooth flow of
screening.
we will also prepare a form for the registration
of entrants comlete with all the necessary
info. we could also use these info for our
future derbies.

evgba would also take care of the expenses
(plane fare, transpo, lodging, food, and
allowance of our screener/s)


V. Cockhouse Reservation - evgba would reserve a location/
cockhouses for evgba members and guests.

I heard that most people were talking about the stag certification and how good it is to see real stags in a stag derby. Although we finished 2 1/2- 1 1/2 my handlers were very happy to report that we faced stags and our 1 loss and 1 tie came in fair and hard fought matches.

HI and Good Morning Everybody karon pa abot sa Cebu diretso sa computer hex3: Sus grabe kakapuy jud since the seminar on August 30 to the screening day round trip drive Isabel-Ormoc di na jud mada, checked-in na lang sa pensione house pagka September 1. Nagdownload pa ko sa mga pics since the seminar then derby and awarding. Huwat2 usa kay nagsige pa ug download up to this minute, meanwhile:
54 entries on the 1st day, then 10 reentries and 6 straight 4 on the 2nd day, a TOTA L of 70 entries. The entries from far down south were from Mr. TallPaulG of Inopacan, bai Larry Villareal of Hilongos, Mr. Mike Cari of Baybay and Mr. Jigs Caday of Sugod, Southern Leyte and far eastern was from Burauen, Leyte 2 jud ka entries 1 ang nagChampion this was from Engr. pasayloa tawn ko mga abais, karon pa jud ko na-energize ug balik. from aug 30 (start of seminar) up
to sept 03 in the morning (8:00 am) grabe kaayo ang
pressure sa working comm. gi siging2X jud ming tanan
dire. my hats off to my fellow evgba'ns who really gave
their all, blood sweat n tears, just to have a succesful
stag derby. bai ed, bai izlo, doc joey, doc sonny, bai mark,
these guys

there were plenty of problems along the way, some
serious, some samok2X lang. but, like what bai ed has
said, the complaints were only centered on a few, and
mostly mga batos and syobel boyz lang, after explaining to them that a stag derby is fight bet. 8-10 mo. old stag, with no less than 7-7 primary wing feathers, and the general and physical appearance of stag, nakasabot na ang mga 1st timers . if you have a 9 mo. old stag, you get fought to an 8 mo. old or 10 mos. old stag. if you have an 8 mo. old stag, you stand a chance to be fought with a 10 mo. old stag also. that's the risk a breeder should be willing to take. anyways, all in all, we finished the derby with a bang !!! with most of the entrants clamoring for a clean-up stag derby this october. well.....lets see ???

we were able to get new members also from various
areas. jabordsky from the south (hindang, leyte) and the
group of oliver velasco from tabango, leyte. our lucky new member from ormoc, gino salonga, bagged the champion prize and the beautiful trophy, courtesy of excellence and thunderbird. am sure many more members could have joined if only we had members assigned to this task of going around the cockhouses and fishing for interested members.

there were many many outstanding and pretty looking
stags during the derby. our very own patrick m. aka tarantula, showing pretty good stags with very good station. his roundhead stag that won was a fantastic
ground operator. gamay ra tingali to ug samad. bai jigs
showing dom/sweater crosses were stags to behold also.
anindot ug balahibo. pution na mga balawiks. his 1st win
was against the stag of evgba'n mark ferry. i thought
the stag of mark got puzzled with the off colored stag of
bai jigs caday. maybe he was thinking, are you a he or a
she, hehe. before he knew it, twas late already, the
balawiks was all over him. evgba'n edwin panta, showing
a beautiful gold stag with white streamers was matched
against the entry of bigtym elmer codilla of vsc 5-stag no
pot money. the gold stag and the grey stag of emeng met
high up in the air on the 1st buckle. the gold stag clearly
giving a hit and was all over the grey stag up to the ground when suddenly a very loud waaaah was heard all over the cockpit. the grey gave a last "bahala na ni" shot
and hit it there big. the grey stag won! rjd entry of arjee
deen, a young breeder from ormoc also showed some
sharp and power punching stag. his stag was matched to
the stag of our very own el presi. rjd, showing a red yellow leg, out of stocks from biboy enriquez of firebird
farm, literally disabled the left foot of bai ed's stag.
karon pa ko kita ani sa stag derby. panit na lai ga-gunit
sa tiil. kada careo, makakita ang mga tao, sa tiil sa stag
na gatoyok-toyok. grabehang stag aning bata-a oi. daghan
pang mga gwapo kaayo na mga fights didto. ang kan mano johnny 1st fight against former cong. toto locsin won
without a sweat. their fight against bernie tacoy (one of
the champions, sa other entry) was also very very exciting. mano johnny's stag got hit at the nape, we thought that the fight was all over, when suddenly the stag
of bernie looked drunk and dizzy and it was mano johnny's
stag who was giving the beating. very very exciting fight
won by mano johnny's stag. the young stag of bai monching matched against the formidable entry of atty jun larrazabal of ormoc was also one of the most exciting fights. both stags high flying. bai monchings stag was hit
at the neck. the knife got stock up. it took the referees asst. many seconds to pull the knife out and i thought that
its all over for the young stag of bai monching. carreo was
made to formally end the match when all of a sudden,
RESURRECTION time for bai monchings stag. i thought
the "kalag" of fpj went into the stag of bai monch. who would ever believe... cya na man hinooy nangulata, ala
fpj, with matching pompyang, nyahaha. daog stag ni
bai monch. nakapakpak ko da, maayo jud !!! ang sa yours truly na mga stags, well..... osa ra tawn maoy daog.
hatch black namo kaliwat sa kan otic g. roy gray brown red, mao rai nka tsamba kontra sa cebu salot . bai els,
sa nyo pa jud naka tsamba. ang oban nako mga stags,
perform man, pero not my day, maybe next stag derby amo na sab ni bai ed, huhuhu.

money-wise nakabawi ta karon mga evgba'ns. daghan2X lang ta mga expenses pero still, saka na sa
minimum daily balance atoang account ron sa pnb.:lol:

after the derby was done. all had a good sleep (pakapin
pa hagok) except for bai ed and me.... recollecting......
what happened ? was it our stags ? was it the betting
strategies? was it the moon? was it the tide? ........
kami na lang doha cge ug text2X kai amoang mga kaoban
katolog man naghayang with matching snore pa, ahehe.
no excuses .... we came in prepared...... our stags pre-
pared...... it was one of those nights...... good thing we
are from leyte......we have the blood of grandpa mac A,

bebot flores, our matchmaker and monton cashier)
had a dinner meeting at the chito's chow, sept 2, again
to make an assesment of how we did during the derby.
our mistakes at the derby in baybay were taken cared of
but during this derby another set of loopholes appeared.
everybody gave their observations from the screening,
to the matching, the sequencing, and the problems we
encountered at the 2 day derby itself. we still have
plenty of room to improve and the good thing is .....
we accept criticism (be it positive or negative) and we
are all willing to learn and we all resolved to implement
the solutions we have agreed upon.

jud, 2 ka adlaw. from aug 30 (seminar) 31 n 1 (screen-
ing, to sept 1 n 2 (up to 7am)... we were all exhausted.
if not for voltplex and reload plus, ahehe komersyal osa,
bogged down jud ming tanan working comm. as we go
along and promote our derbies, we have progressed
tremendously...thanks to the unity of the team and the
untiring support of the members and friends.

maniniyot, pit manager, trouble shooter, mo-runner pa,
singer-entertainer (wala lang kalahotay ni manny ber-
bano, mas grabe to makagonit ug microphone).

Stag screening was awesome. It was a TRUE stag derby. Thanks for the assurance and we can assure you also that there is no such thing as "STOPPER". If you still don't knowwhat this means, I will cite an example, Your entry is already waiting for Champion and because of the PRIZE MONEY at stake, some promoters will make an arrangement ang check the opponent of your last fight. They will see to it that your fight for champion will not be an easy one. I will not expand but in EVGBA there is no switching of fowls, whatever entry in the fight schedule, that's it, it might be a strong or a weak entry but the thing is, the opponent also has a gaffed knife, so it's anybody's game and we will maintain the FAIRNESS for as long as we exist.

First of all I would like to congratulate the EVGBA, the participants and the people behind the success of the derby. Few months back, I was requested again to be the screener of your stag derby this year. I was hesitant to accept it first due to the fact that i will be busy with my work and the CF stag derby this year plus my 1 month vacation. I told Ed just in case I cannot make it, I would have somebody to replace me for the job.

The screening day was a weekday and it was hard for me to get a leave since I consumed all my leave for the year. Gipangitaan na lang paagi ug unsaon paglusot for the day hehehe. I was also invited to join the seminar last August 30 but couldnt make it due it was the finals of the 5 stag San Juan derby which I had an entry using the CF 5 stag entry name which eventually one of the champions that night. After the derby, gibayaan nako ang mga batos kay mouli pa ko sa balay ug kuha lang sa bag then derecho na dayon sa airport for the 5 am flight to Tacloban. Nag huna huna ko ug dala sa ako mga tare on the way to the airport kay basin ganahan ko mag entry mangita lang ug ma finance para akoy motare pud pero nakalimtan jud kay gadali dali man lagi for the flight.

This years' stag derby had lesser stags being disqualified due to the fact that it was pre screened by the officers of EVGBA plus the experience of the participants during last year derby. I enjoyed my stay during the derby kay nakakita man ko ug e finance nga entry and na meet pud nako ang mga Codillas, Eming and Wennie during the derby. Friendly guys jud sila win or loss katawa lang gihapon.

Asa naman ang mga roundgirls during the finals? Nag sige ko ug pangita wala naman didto? Kinsa man ang body guard diay nila? The stag committee during the derby were all busy attending to their entries and to some minor problems along the way. I was given a front row seat near the pit entrance to see the fights. Nag sugod ko ug pusta ginagmay para palabay sa sultada lage kay ang akoa entry fight 47 ug 54 sa elims. Pastilan perteng pili nako sa mga stags during the fight maayo jud pagkapili ang mga napilde huhuhuh. Ang sabong talaga... Kato hinoon ako gusto pustahan wala nako nakapusta kay ang kontra mga Codillas man ug tapad pud mi that night. Maikog man pud ko pusta sa pikas kay sige man mi istorya nila Eming ug Wennie.

Gahuwat ko sa ako second fyt nga last fyt of the elims pero no show man ang kontra kay niuli na after napilde ila first fight vs Mark entry. Lisod na daw pukawon ang tag iya matud pa sa gisugo nga bata ug handler. Straight 3 fyts na lang hinoon sa finals. Ang manok nga akoa gi finance mao ang manok gikan Hilongos kay Larry "the running" idol :)

Thanks for the ever understanding EVGBAns for the temporary use of the fund for EVGBA to be able to give the CASH PRIZES stipulated on that said derby. Again the question is, Why we lost on that derby when in fact we were able to get the minimum number of entries to break even? Needless to count on the gate proceeds, etc.???

LESSON LEARNED and because we were able to patch up the loopholes during our 4-Stag Derby, now we are proud again to be the only SEC registered gamecock association in Leyte, Samar and Biliran. GO GO GO EVGBA!!!!!

By the way, we have the so-called reciprocating entry. Actually, this is not part of our proceedings but part of the tradition I supposed, that an entry will be fielded by one non member to catch an entry or more for his promoted derby. As far as reciprocating entry is concerned, we have 3 during our 4-stag derby.
1. Entry by Winnie Codilla for the Valencia No Pot Money Stag Derby
2. Entry by Engr. Buot for the Tacloban Stag Derby
3. Entry by Engr. Toniacao for the Almeria Stag or Cock Derby?

How we will entertain this as an association and as far as a derby is concerned, a promoter? My suggestion is;

2. For the Tacloban Derby = Mang Johnny Lim, Sangkay Tarantula, Sangkay Piranha and Sangkay Extremes will find solution for this

Individual or group comments are welcome but I think the closest derby is the Valencia as it will be held on Sept. 28, 29 and 30 I think?

2. OCTOBER 14 - ALMERIA COCKPIT, ALMERIA, BILIRAN ISLAND = 3-COCK DERBY to be promoted by Engr. Toniacao(solo champion in our Baybay 4-cock derby)

3. OCTOBER 21 - JARO COLISEUM AS POSTED BY SANGKAY TARANTULA to be promoted by Engr. Boco(one of the 5 champions in our 4-staq derby)

So, we will try our best to field one entry each but the main concern is the Valencia Stag being this month already. For the October held derbies in Almeria and Tacloban, I will be arriving on October 6 so there is a chance that I can field a personal entry under EVGBA's banner in Tacloban BUT the Almeria of Engr. Toniacao, the original plan of having the Biliran EVGBAns look into it will hold. Ha ha ha, we understand your stand so with us, we know how the stag derbies in Valencia were being conducted in the past. As an example during our recent 4-stag derby, I fielded 5 entries on the 1st day including that of the 2 from the Cebu Salot Cockers then with no good standing, I fielded another 2 entries straight 4 fights during the 2nd day. Of the 7 entries, not even 1 entry got the insurance prize, so you see the fairness in the EVGBA promoted derbies "OUR DERBY" because you were one of the founding members. There is no such thing as the promoter's entry will always get part of the CHAMPION'S prize nor if one entry is waiting for champion already, the last fight is a needle-pass-win if that entry will make it. It's not proper for me to describe how this is being conducted but I can PM or email you for complete details. Anyway, you already have an idea hence your remarks.

Will the stags legbanded by EVGBA(meaning passed the screening during the 4-stag derby) automatically pass the screening to be conducted in Jaro Coliseum, Tacloban City? If so, then there is a chance that we can field an entry or maybe Mark Ferry can also? If there is no assurance to this, then we will not risk travelling to Tacloban City only for our legitimate stags to be rejected.EVGBA promoted stag derby is different, we will accept whatever the SCREENER'S decision on our stags so no matter how far, we will go for it.On the other hand, we are just trying to reciprocate the support that Engr. Boco rendered to EVGBA so if we can do something about this screening issue, then please be assured of my entry representing EVGBA.

OK I edited again this portion as I received text from bai Naval. The EVGBA entry for the Almeria 3- Cock Derby on Oct. 14 is to be fielded by Bai Naval and Bai Tony. There is even a chance that it will become 2 entries as according to him, he will contact bai BenC. BODY CONFIRMATION

1. The head – most cockers prefer small heads. Pea-combed cocks often have small heads compared to those with straight combs. Head of pea-combed cocks are more spherical while a straight-combed cock’s sometimes tend to be large and flat. However, there are certain straight-combed strains which have round small heads, so choose according to your preference.

2. The eyes – these should be clear, alert and bright. Some like them red since yellowish or whitish eyes mean that the cock has Oriental or native blood in him. Some cocks have dark brown eyes and some have mottled eyes. Whatever the color, the eyes must be well-proportioned and well-focused without one being larger or bulging more than the other. When you look at the cock straight in the eyes, the cocks should look at your straight in return. Bright red eyes also mean good blood circulation.

3. The beak – this should close and set well, with the lower and upper beaks fitting tightly. Big, thick beaks show that the cock can execute firm billholds, while long thin ones are signs of speed and agility. Hooked beaks are good for bill-holding, too.

4. The face – the skin on the face of the cock should be bright red. This shows good blood circulation. Most cocks with rough skin on their faces are either bred haphazardly or are already old, maybe more than three (3) years. A smooth red face is what you should look for.

6. The neck – the neck should be strong and well-proportional with the rest of the body. Feathers around the neck (the hackles) must be full, shiny and smooth. Long hackles reaching the back and shoulder of the cock show American blood. Short hackles is characteristics of Orientals.

7. the shoulders – these must be broad and muscular. In relation to the back and the rest of the body, the shoulders must be a bit wider.

8. the breast – the breast must be full of flesh that the bone is barely noticeable when you hold the cock. Inspect the breast portion and be certain that you feel the meat, and not the fat.

9. the back – some cockers like very broad backs in the belief that the wider the back of the cock, the more power may be expected. Some cocks have broad backs because the joint area where the thigh bone is attached is positioned high up the hips. This will be recognizable by a flat back. This configuration makes for shorter reach of the legs of the cock. The back should be broad but not flat.

10. the tail – the base of the tail where the fan is connected must be thick but pliable. This means that is has strength and allows the tail to move properly. In general, broad tail feathers mean imported blood while narrow feathers show infusion of native or Oriental blood. Don’t take cocks that have wary tails or with tail fans that lean to one side.

11. the wings – length of the wings or flight feathers often become the criterion for judging abilities in flying. Most cockers believe that the shorter the wings, the higher the cock can fly. Actually, shorter wings give more maneuverability while in flight, and long wings give wider span. The thing to look for with regards the wings would be its carriage. Are both wings tacked in tightly to the body or do they seem to hang from the shoulders? With the wings tacked in, the cock appears tall and leggy. If the wings are held low, the cock looks short or low-stationed. Long wings mean more shuffling may be expected and short wings make for good “strapping” or clipping.

12. the thighs – from the hips to the hocks, the thighs must be full of supple muscles. They need not be rounded as drumsticks of broilers, but must be powerful enough when hitting. The thigh must be longer than the shanks.

13. the shanks – these are the scaly parts of the feet from the hocks to the base of the toes. The scale of the shank must be clean and smooth with no scales peeled off. Some prefer shanks which are thin and dry since these are marks for speed and agility. Big study shanks pack more power but they are sure signs of slow-footedness. Though shorter than the thighs, the shanks must be long enough in proportion to the whole body of the fowl.

14. the toes – smooth, small toes are always desirable. Long knotted toes show that the slow-footed, and are signs of old age. Never accept cocks with crooked toes and those with toes which have a tendency towards crookedness when you do some tailing(kahig). Watch the cocks as he walks. Observe how he folds his toes as he makes his steps. The toes must curl towards the shank and footpads and not sideways. The prop toe must be well positioned at the back of the foot, barely touching the ground when the cocks stand erect. Don’t take cocks which are duck-footed of those with prop toes pointing towards the front (palad-tao). This impairs his balance when fighting. Avoid cocks which are bow-legged or knocked kneed.

When standing, the whole silhouette of the cock must be considered. He must be well-balanced in height, width and length. Very long bodies make turning more difficult and tend to make the cock bend with his line of rump almost parallel to the ground. Too erect a stance, however, seem to make them look awkward.

A cock’s stance and carriage must also be carefully observed during selection. Short bodies with good angle of back or rump makes for good maneuverability on the ground or in the air. Some cockers believe that the cock should stand with his breast at a 40 degree angle with the ground and his tail, also at 45 degree.

Although it is difficult to find a perfect gamecock in terms of conformation, look for cocks with as many desirable traits as possible. Give more emphasis on the legs, the wings and the body when judging conformation, sometimes a fault which you find in the cock’s body is compensated somewhere by his fighting style, gameness, ability (intelligence) or cutting (accuracy).

Inviting everyone to the CYBERFRIENDS 5 STAG DERBY

Venue: San Juan Coliseum

Date: October 2 and 4, 2006

Guaranteed prize: Php 500K or more

Pot money: Php 6,600 for straight 5 in the finals; Php 5,500 for those joining the elims

Minimum Bet: Php 5,500

Format: 2-stag elims / 3-stag finals or straight 5-stag finals


This is a 2 days 5 stag derby with 1 day 2 stag elims on October 2 and 3 stag finals on October 4 with limited slots for straight 5 option in the finals. Heirarchy of priorities for straight 5 option are as follows:

1. Elims participants who did not qualify for the finals (CF and non CF entries)

2. CF entries outside Mega Manila

3. CF entries within Mega Manila

4. Non CF outside and within Mega Manila

An entry should score 1 point to qualify in the finals. There will be 50k prize money at stake for entries from the elimination round that will score 3 consecutive wins in the finals.

We will have a CF stag derby committee on stag leg banding. This means they will do a farm to farm screening for all CF members and friends who are interested to join the derby. Please post here your location and contact number if you want your stags to be banded for this derby.

A deposit of 1k will be collected after the leg banding of your stags. The 1k deposit will be deducted on the entry fee once you join the derby. NO ENTRY, NO REFUND of your deposit. Farm to farm screening will start July 2006.

Screening of stags one day before the derby will be allowed in San Juan Coliseum for those entries that were not visited by our screeners due to remote location of your farm. This option will be made available to all interested participants to accommodate other entries deciding to be part of the derby.

Priority according to dates:

1.Valencia 4 - Stag No Pot Money Derby September 29 - 30 = c/o bai Cholo. We will have 11,000.00Php capital to bet 5,500.00Php for each stag during the 1st day. If the entry will qualify for the final day, further decisions to be made later as to what to do with the standing capital.
2.Cyberfriends 5 - Stag Derby San Juan Coliseum, San Juan, MM October 2 - 4 = We will field an entry on a financed scheme but more favorable for us as we will be responsible for the pot money and bets only, the rest such as taxi and handlers/gaffer's meal allowances will be shouldered by the owner. I am sorry not to disclose the name of the owner of the stags as he requested to be anonymous. For this, we are setting 16,500.00Php capital 5,500 for the pot money and 5,500 bet for each stag on the 1st day. Again, as in the Valencia entry, further decisions to be made in case the entry will qualify for the final day, a 3-stag scenario.
3.Almeria 3 - Cock Derby October 14 = EVGBA’s representation = bai Shane will field 2 entries plus the possibility of bai Naval, bai Tony and bai Ben Comeo to augment the quantity of entries. Yours truly is still thinking of the possibility of fielding an entry in tandem with bai Goldcock. For this, the KURAMBOS Fund will not be touched.
4.Jaro Coliseum, Tacloban City 3 - Stag Derby October 21 = the EVGBA representaion will be by Mang Johnny Lim, Sangkay Piranha, Sangkay Tarantula. Again, yours truly is planning to field an entry in fact the EVGBA screened stags are being prepared for this. This will depend on the stags’ legitimacy during the screening day. Also, we are setting aside the KURAMBOS Fund.
