April 19th, 2002, 01:53 AM
Greetings to all sabongeros. Can we all donate information on the cockpit names and locations of all sabongan in the Metro Manila area. Also, what days are the hackfights there.

For example, Del Monte Cockpit of Malabon is in the corner of MacArthur Hi-Way and Del Monte Ave. Hackfights are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday.

Please feel free to add information on this thread.

This is a big help to all expatriates that take a vacation and can go to different cockpits and arenas. Also, for other fellow sabongeros around the local Metro Manila area to be aware of other locations also.

Thanks.

charlie, this is an excellent and outstanding post. may i add, please kindly include the phone number/s. based on experience, it is always best to call the arena before going. such practice has saved me lots of time. for sight seeing and informational purposes, it is always nice to know, at any day of the week, the places where you can go to see our sport. some people, like me, would like to visit different venues, just to see for themselves how each arena compares to each other.

yap - Thanks for the telephone information regarding the Pasig Square Cockpit. Is that cockpit near where the Jeeps turn around. I recall a lot of jeeps marked Pasig - Quiapo and vice versa.

ACMLOT - I passed by the Texas Cockpit (National Road) when we took a shortcut going towards Siniloan, laguna via the backway through Rizal instead of via the South Super Hi-Way.

Kharmic - Where is the Makati/PRC Cockpit located? Also, is the Shaw Blvd - Mandaluyong Cockpit near Shangri-La by Shaw Blvd? Is it going towards Sumulong Hi-Way?

Dong1967 - Is the Dampalit Cockpit the same as the one I mentioned by MacArthur Hi-Way and Del Monte Avenue?

Gentlemen, the information you have all provided is very much appreciated. Sabongeros are truly gentlemen. By sharing this information it helps our friends from out of the country to know there are various cockpits within a vicinity. Also, it allows our local cocking friends to try out other cockpit venues.

charlie, sorry but i wont try to give you direction to pasig square. i dont want to get you somewhere else. any one who could help charlie with direction?

try to go to pasig square on tuesdays and wednesdays, about 2pm, when they have these so called 2-cock concierto. once they start, the fights are continuous, there are lot of entries, and the fights sometimes go on into the night. and their management dont tolerate sabit people.

wow, these are invaluable info--these are lots of arenas to try. like charlie, i thank every one who responded.

but one more request, could you please include the phone number/s if you have them. please...thanks again.

rodel, thanks for giving the pasig square garden direction.

(side topic: now, about sabit people, no offense to any one, but if you hate sabitan, do not go to pateros cockpit. dont get me wrong, pateros people are very nice and i have no problem with them. the problem is they have this sabungan practice of sabitan among house tagapusta people. when you are winning, thats when they would hit you. they would not disappear. they would say sandali lang, or someone will get the money, or naipit lang ako-ill pay you, sandali lang... you wait and wait, the sabong ends, and still you dont get paid. its a pain, it ruins your game, it takes the fun out of the game, and it might only get you into a fight. the problem: the pateros management for tolerating such practice.

if im a cockpit owner, to attract and retain more business, one of my strict rule would be no sabitan, sabit people would be banned in my arena, regardless as to whether you are a kumpadre, friend, or relative. pay after the fight and before the next fight. no more money, no more bet, and you go home. if after the next fight (after the subject fight) you still has not gotten paid, you are welcome to complain to the owner or manager (which they welcome you to do), you and the sabit guy go to the office to (balasa, i mean) force the guy to pay, and the guy is banned forever. and i would remind everybody about such rule every sabong day from time to time, and especially, that reporting such problem is always welcome. ucap-mandaluyong and pasig square has somewhat similar rule and practice, which they always announce from time to time, and im happy with the result: no problem with sabit people there so far. in pasig square, as an observing customer, i like it very much when management really go after their own house tagapusta people when someone complains about late payment or sabit problem involving their own house tagapusta people. i like it very much when management really gets involve in any late payment or sabit problem. it makes me feel good that im in the right place. when i see that they only give lip service to such problem, it scares me, and most likely, i would stay away from their business.

its clear, sabit people do stay away from arenas that dont tolerate them... sorry, i got carried away.)

thanks for the response, chili_sm. im referring to those cases mainly wherein there is no dispute as to who is the winner, where the dispute is about late payment of the loser. when you still are not getting paid after 3 or 4 more fights (after the subject wagered fight), and there is no dispute that the other party lost, and the problem is about late payment, and there is not even a proof that the loser is trying to break a house check, its also sabit, and owners or management must take a strong and strict stand, and must get involved and resolved such sabit problem immediately. lip service is not a good business practice. that was the point i was trying to get across.

about a year ago, we had a similar problem in pasay cockpit with one guy who is notorious for late payment. (of course, we did not know that at the time.) we complained to the management, and all we got was lip service. the guy was still there during our most recent visit, and people around us advised us to avoid the guy. but we already knew. the point is: pasay management should have taken care of that guy a long time ago to straighten up his act--to pay after the wagered fight and before the next fight at all times--or be gone forever. he is bound to victimize some newcomers again.

its nice to hear from again, chili_sm.

Wow the posting on this thread has rapidly grown, and I'm sure all our fellow sabongeros local and overseas have viewed this thread and found out some information that have been very benefitial to them.

Once again thank you to all who have posted information on this thread.

Dong1967 - Pare thanks for the info and new information regarding cockpit informations in parts of Bulacan.

Dong1967 brings up a very important point. Are the bets in the cockpits of Pampanga (logrohan/sahuran) in tagalog or in kapangpangan? Appreciate your answer to this question mga fellow sabongeros.

Rodel Aguilar - Pare thanks for the detailed directions to the Pasig Cockpit. Even the palaikutan pare you had information haha, that was great.

Torogi - I am glad that you appreciated my post pare. And pare that is a good idea: SABONG MAP for all of the Philippines.

Walsi - Thanks for the Pampanga/Angeles cockpit informations.

Sentenciador - Are you referring to an account for submission of events on the Calender options of sabong.com

Thank you Sentenciador for the clarification. I understand now. That is a good option indeed here at the sabong.com website.

Chili SM - Good post on your part regarding the responsibility of the cockpit regarding outside wagers. I agree with you that the cockpit management handles the arbitration between the agrieved party and the so-called charged-guilty party. My question is how is this handled by the cockpit managements. Will the guilty party no matter how big or how small be banned from the cockpit for an indefinite period. I have seen picture boards by the entrance gates of various cockpits with a list and picture of: mananabit, mandurokot, etc. Some cockpits bring the offenders in the ruweda and the management hambalos them, so as to physically show a warning on future crooks to see what will happen should they get caught. Chili SM do you agree with this method?

Also, pareng Chili SM, up to what degree are the responsiblities of the cockpits regarding patrons who carry firearms in the cockpit. I have seen patrons pull out guns from a couple of Laguna and Nueva Ecija cockpits. Does the management press charges against them? I know in some cockpits there are sign that you are supposed to deposit the firearm at the entrance. What about policemen off duty...they are not to discard their firearms at anytime. How does management handle this?

I appreciate your answer regarding this matter pare. More power to you and long live your cockpit in San Mateo.

Chili SM

Good points. Appreciate your input on these points regarding management's responsibilities.

Although that Mindanao incident is a good one.

yap
April 25th, 2002, 05:23 PM
chili_sm, sorry, but with all due and utmost respect, i disagree with you concerning owners not getting involved in late payment problems, when there is no dispute as to the winner and loser. in my humble opinion, its another form of sabit, and its not good for business if owners do not get involved. (anyway, actually its the owners' tauhan who takes care of the problem, at the order of the owner/management). i like it the way they do it in pasig square garden and at ucap-mandaluyong, where they always remind people to pay right away and encouraging people to do report late payment problems to management--that late payment is a no no, is not tolerated, and could get people banned in that arena.

as to firearms, i think its really up to management if they want to be strict about this or not. its hard (although it is not impossible) to bring firearms in areneta, ucap-mandaluyong, and casino filipino, where you have to undergo an actual search. if im an owner, i would even go to the extra expense of using the handy and portable, airport-type device to check for deadly weapons--its a good business investment. again, in my humble opinion, its also good for business for customers to know that they are safe in that particular arena. one bad incident could ruin your business.

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know about the cockpits in Las Pinas and Paranaque? What are their names and locations and days for hackfight?

How many cockpits are there in Caloocan? Name, location and days of hackfight?

Also, does anyone know about the Sta Quiteria Cockpit?

crispulo
April 27th, 2002, 08:42 AM
In Caloocan there are two cockpits I know - Kaybiga (Caloocan Cockpit Arena) and Sta. Queteria.
Kaybiga, operated by Jun Viray, is along Gen. Luis St., within one of the industrial estate, in Caloocan. If you're coming from Novaliches Bayan, u can ride a mini bus going to Sta. Cruz (via North expressway), or a jeep going to Malinta. They hold conciertos on Thursdays and hacks Friday to Sunday. Derbies are usually held Tuesdays.
Sta. Quiteria Cockpit just at the boundary of QC and CC, along Tandang Sora near the corner of Quirino Highway (turn right if you're coming from Novaliches at Mercury Drug; there are tricycles at that corner. it's walking distance, around 400 meters from highway). Cockpit schedule is Sunday to Wednesday. Normally, fights are few and it takes a while before bets are scheduled, slowing down fights.

charlie
April 28th, 2002, 06:45 PM
Crispulo - Thanks for the information. I remember passing by the Kaybiga cockpit once. It is small and compact in the ruweda area. But it is pretty big in the ulutan area and the keeps. The beer and pulutan were good too. The Sta. Quiteria cockpit information you provided are highly appreciated too. You are correct about lag time between fights in the Sta Quiteria cockpit as I have heard from a couple of people about how there is sometime only 11 hackfights on weekdays. Talk about slow. It must be due to the traffic between Balintawak and Novaliches. So I guess all the sabongeros avoid the traffic. They go to other venues.

I have a question. Does anyone know if there is a San Juan Cockpit. My friend mentioned he had a brownred that won in the San Juan Cockpit back when Joseph Estrada was still Vice President. I just want to know the hackfight schedule and location of the San Juan cockpit.

hello charlie, could not email you the soonest possible time been very busy lately.

anyway, about san juan cockpit yes it is still going on thursdays up to sundays.. it is no longer the venue of the big timers but it is still operating.

casino pilipino is now open airconditioned and lots of good fights... guests are to dress properly even the cristos are dressed up... maski naka slippers lang but hindi sila mukhang yagit.

so far the cleanest sila ngayon no one spits and blow their noses just anywhere and you have tables which makes it so much nicer and conducive for following the regla.

only thing I do not like about it is that their 10 minute clocks are not big enough at saka bakit nagiisa lang and their entry board is not nice to look at... paging danny llanes.

cheers and mabuhay !!!!

Hello Golden Dragon. Thanks for your information on the San Juan Cockpit and it's schedule. What street is this San Juan Cockpit located?

I see from the Chit Chat Thread that you are from Iriga City and Naga City, in Bicol. Ma'am Golden Dragon would you be so kind as to share some information on the cockpits in those areas in Naga City Cockpits and Iriga City Cockpits. Your response is greatly appreciated. I am sure the information that you provide will be greatly appreciated by our expats overseas originally from Bicol. Thank you again and take care.

Chili SM - I have one question for you kaibigan. It is just a question regarding a situation, maybe it has happened to you, hopefully it has never happened in your pit in San Mateo. How about if the Meron and the Wala are both big times tapos they also have mga bodyguards nila e nagkainitan sa sentensiya, because of the amount of money on the bet and "asaran", at naglabasan ng firearms like you said about the incident on Mindanao, what is management to do? I recall one incident in a cockpit in Leyte and this is what actually happened. I just rushed out of there as I haven't seen so many armalites pointed at each other. Then again this is back in the mid 90's. Just a question friend.

Long live cockfighting and may cool heads prevail.

Take Ortigas Ave. going East to Pasig. After passing Rosario bridge, take a left turn at the next intersection going to Amang Rodriguez Ave. you will pass barangay Manggahan bridge and RFM Swift. If you find a Caltex gas station on your right, there's a road on the left going to brgy. Greetings from New York. I chanced upon this thread and am glad that this exchange of information is going on. It is a good objective to let managers of these cockpits know how they are faring with clients and improvements that could be made to make it better. Pits with a wholesome and clean environment should be able to attract good paying customers. The schedules and locations would be a boon to OFWs and cockers who wish to spend part or their whole vacation in the cockpits. Fair and square are good buzzwords and should be practised in the pits. Indeed management has a major role in implementing the rules and regulations to succeed in their events. The sabungeros also need to cooperate and the demeanor of many needs to be polished to contribute to overall cleanliness. During derbies, it is a good idea to adjust starting times depending on the number of entries so fights end before midnight, earlier would even be better.
