    redquill cross

redquill breeding: open to suggestion (not familiar with redquill breeding), have a redquill cross to velcro, both black & red velcro, normally cross velcro to either roundhead or kelso, i'm going to breed back to the velcro for 1/4redquill blood, what other breeds cross well with the red quill for lk (pi), anyone fight redquill in the pi. any suggestions welcome (normally we would spar them a few times & decide from that what to mate them too, put stuck here in korea). jim

    Authentic REDQUILL

Just like the JAPS, REDQUILL is one of the vanishing breed that is used for infusion only birds. I know an east coast breeder who uses this strain to blend with his signature GREY. Just like J.Clem love to use Japs on his birds. Its just a matter of preference. Hope it helps.

they are fast.....cutting machines.........but need bottom
i think what they need is a back up of blood coming from a good hatch family.

they are busy fighters.......that goes back and forth like a chainsaw...in distant fights.....but from my observation........they are little bit late when it comes to toe to toe (close) exchange of shuffles.......i mean close fight........because most of the redquill that i saw lose........were ahead of the fight.......but mostly badly clipped in a close fight.that`s from my observation of fights i saw.
the in-fighting ability of any good shuffler hatch is what they need

We won the 8-cock derby in Copper State with Ed Beigthol's Redquill-Hatch cross. Just like Buhawi said they are accurate cutters with no bottom. Don't dare to fight pure at early age, they'll soulk, like an old pulo blood.

thanks, got a black velcro/ redquill stag & a red velcro/redquill stag & pullet as gifts from a friend of the late william middaugh, replies a big help:
alibaba been in touch with pennie fabros, he is conditioning 4 redquill crosses for me to fight jan 28th in the ufac & hopefully he bring some redquill/murphy cocks for me to fight later.
daredevil will breed the pullet to the black velquill stag & my black velcro broodcock, thanks for the message
everyone else says hatch so my mclean & leiper hens, & i have 4 nice hatch crossed hens from mountain view,doc/kelso & bates/gwoods lacy. buhawi says need bottom, sounds like my ruble.
now just need to get in touch with wildfoot for a couple of hens or pennie fabros. from knowing nothing, 2 months will fight, now i know i can't go wrong with hatch blood, other breeders cross successfully velcro to redquill. jim

Buhawi's right about "most" redquills needing bottom crossed into them .
We showed 8 brothers the last two years that were 1/2 yl hatch & 1/2 redquill . They'll score quick and it's hard to find better cutters than a good redquill . Jim , I think your on the right track by crossing them with ruble hatch .
We came across a couple of pure redquill brothers about 10 years ago . We got them dirt cheap and intended on hacking them just for fun . We didn't like how they acted as they were very high strung and to be honest , we didn't trust their gameness .....even enough to take them to a $20 hack fight . So we decided to tie a blade on em and fight them against each other . I remember it like it was yesterday . Both the quills broke about head high in the first fly ............and BOTH of them fell from the air stone dead . We were sick at what we had just done . A good quill will cut you to pieces quick .

    Unhappy Re: redquill cross

Sad to hear that he is no longer a member. I really like his posts regarding the successful crosses he made with his velcros and his Roger Roberts fowls. Would love to know more about his redquill crosses.

    Re: redquill cross

Most folks folks here hit the quill blood right on the head, they do need bottom added, accuracy is a given, speed is a given, some aggressive families some off beat family's. There are 3 main things for some reason quill cross good with

    Greys
    Hatch
And other black fowl, I don't know what it is but they just seem to nick very well

Seems like the quill is one of your foundation blood. Thanks for sharing... it does not seem marketing to me. But if it is so... no harm done. Still, thanks for sharing.

    Re: redquill cross

This fowls are the most accurate cutters i ever had but had questionable gameness they are fast, accurate but really lacks bottom. I try to inbred them several years ago but lost my interest with them when i fought the broodfowl to test its gameness...he sulk.

    Re: redquill cross

I have several pens of redquills. Pure they are very fast and very hard shufflers. I`ve crossed them with many diffrent breeds. The best cross i`ve found was with my hatch. I`ve also crossed it on mugs, brownreds, greys, and kelsos. It will speed up most any family of fowl.
