    Artificial Insemination

Not sure how much you guys know on this topic but to me it is kind of curious. I am taking an animal science class and a teacher was talking about how they take the sperm of a Bull and freeze it in Liquid Nitrogen and when it is needed you can defrost it and give it to the female cow. My question is that has anyone heard of artificially inseminating a chicken. I am just curious just think you can get some sperm from you brood cock and use it 50 years from now. That is what they do in the Livestock industries but am curious to know what you guys think.

    Nice idea

The problem is drawing the sperm. Some cocks will hump anything but most are to chosy to mount a doll(fake hen)

i have successfully done artificial insemination with my chickens.i have a cousin who is studying for vetenarian and taught me how.

its easy to inseminate the hen.the hard part is getting the sperm. you have to massage and squeze the cloaca.

you have probably made your rooster squirt sperm before by accident .have you ever grabed your rooster by the back (underside by the legs)close to the base of the tail and he sort of clinches his tail down .kind of like when they top a chicken .thats how it happens.

with science there is nothing imposible.
Why do you have to use AI?
AI is what pig farmers and cattle raisers do so that they can use their boars efficiently bacause if over used conception rate suffers because of poor quality semen.
They can only use the boars every 4 days.

Do you need to expand the semen of the rooster so that alot of hens could be served even if they could mate the hens 10 times or even more?

or, you could use a mating hen, insert a condom-type rubber on the henís vaginal canal, let them mate, and pull out the rubber and retrieve the sperm. the hard part is the wait for mating, and the rubber placement (it must stay in place, or you might end up having a hen adobo). you could even stitch the rubber opening around the outside skin. when your rooster is horny, he would not know that he is in some kind of birth control type mating.

Once i tried it with a dog

The male was to big and he mounted the female he sliped back out and got huge, sperm was squrting all over. I collected some in a container and put it in the female with a small neddleless syrange. It was not sucsessful though.

    Artificial Insemination in Fowls

COCKING FUNDAMENTALS of Dr. Andrew Bunan has explained the process of artificial insemination in fowls.

This process, is very tedious and used only in rare or exceptional cases, such as when the fowls, could not do it themselves.

The procedure is not simple for ordinary sabungeros like many of us. From what I can remeber, you should touch the rooster on the back to and fro, to stimulate the rooster. But this entails practice on the rooster.

Then the semen will then be collected.

Then I think a funnel will be used for the hen.

    It's not so simple.

    God bless.

Where exactly you put the rubber

What happens when the hen wants to pass waste (sh*t)

sorry, but im no expert on the subject. im just passing along what i know has been tried, and has been done. getting the sperm and artificial insemination on fowls have been done. this is high tech science. its timing, its tedious, and its not easy. if you are really serious about the subject, check with a fowl veterinarian. i hope this helps.

It is very tedious job, Im' not into it and besides, there are
more priorities to be done, like, taking the care chicks and the
maintaining the cleanliness of the farm... my opinion... cheers...

How about specialising in farm animals and not just fowls

Here's a step-by-step video. Doesn't look too difficult...but its a lady who is doing it so I don't know if that matters.

    Hope this helps.
