CLARETS ORIGINATED FROM MADIGIN TYPE FOWLS THEY ARE:
1.yellow or white legs with black spurs
3. 100% straight combed
4. black breasted
5. med to hi station
6. accurate cutters
7. mostly question on the gameness department.
8. excellent knife fighter.(but i have seen some win in gaffs)
I THINK THAT'S ALL I KNOW ABOUT CLARETS.

Madigin Claret (7/8)
-almost pure, 3 year-old, in moult, shown 2x at Pine View, MS
-shown in the gaff, gameness beyond question = DEAD GAME
-st. comb, yellow-legged
-one in about 10-12 comes out entirely white feathers
-owned by Bates and Hurt Gamefowl, used as a broodcock

This is a picture of my 7/8 Madigin Claret, they are pearl-legged (some come yellow-legged) and sometimes with black spurs, medium to medium-high station, white ears, black-breasted and red in color. The only pure Clarets, I've seem are those which are from Madigin himself and as far as I know he does not give away Claret hens. The only way you can get a high percentage claret is when you inbreed on the cockside.
I agree with Red Wing, that Clarets specifically when inbred sometimes do not want to fight when moulting, which to me is a question of gameness. They are beautiful and when they fight they put-up a nice show because of their majestic fighting style, they are not the rag-tag type.

They are a nice pair!
Once in a while, a WHITE comes from this guy's Madigin Clarets.
Bird pictured was sold to somebody by Bates & Hurt Gamefowl Farm. This bird looks similar to the Bennette white clarets.

I have red and white Madigin Clarets they are birds that can cut very well and are highly inteligent, I have to disagree with some of the other posters about the gameness not all are as they discribed. I can only speak about mine they are very game ( winners in Delrio TN in the gaff) They don't beak hold or wing duck
