I agree. The true Clarets are probably the greatest fowl ever bred.

Thanks for the kind words sir.

We got this Claret line just 5 years ago and so far we like what we are seeing. But these ones infused with our Brassback Albany blood are what we really are excited about.

These started from the old Frank Holcomb Claret blood we acquired from an old timer in Soddy Daisy, TN.

Is that the same Claret blood that Gene Frizzell has? I was thinking some of his was Belk. I have one Claret hen left from Carters blood in Texas which is Frizzell friend. White legged family.

No, these are from another guy. He is supposed to be kin of Frank H (I think he is a nephew). These are the typical Madigan type, dark wine red, WL black spur, and 100% SC. We started with a young pair but the pullet we acquired from him is YL, he said one of the rare throwbacks. She is now both the Mama and great Grandma of those stags and pullets I've posted.

But you are correct. Gene's Claret are Howard Belk (he also has the Bill Baumgardner). Gene and Howard are old close friends since their younger years. Gene's Claret and the Holcombs look very similar.

Here's a few old pictures of Gene's Belk Clarets:

Nice.... That’s what mine looked like. My blood was half that stuff supposedly. All I got left is a hen. I let a friend have some but don’t know if he has it still. Those pics make me want to get it back. Thanks for the post.

    Re: Clarets

Really is amazing how much a dark Butcher looks like a Classic colored Claret and vice versa. I have a few pictures of Johnny Mays holding a butcher that looks exactly the same as a red wine colored Claret. From what I hear (no experience with Clarets) their fighting styles are similar also.
