It's the liquid left when you prcoess milk into butter. Butter will be the solid. Almost like when they make cheese the curd will be butter the whey will be buttermilk.

I don't think vaporated milk is the same as buttermilk I think evaporated milk is sweetened.

I'll keep this info for reference. The taste and texture is what I'm looking for. I've been looking in PI whenever I go home but it seems nobody sells them there.

Thanks Camarines. Also CrookedToe. Both really know what buttermilk is.

    Re: Buttermilk?

I also agree that buttermilk is not that same as evaporated milk... I think the substitute for Buttermilk is cottage cheese

    Re: Buttermilk?

will it be an extra cost for a simple bakyard cockers, let the chickens have it own natural flora and fauna in its system.thats why you let them loose in the range when they are young and the dig and catch other small animals like worms for the protein intake .big time cockers dont use this too much supplements coz its ann added cost to run a hundred cocks to condition b4 the fight.now a days the new cockrs will try to ada this and that but it boils down to economics.waste of too much money, just my opinion ok.its your money anyway thnks.

Buttermilk and cottage cheese are called cultures. When you give antiobotics to fowl you kill all bacteria, good and bad. Fowl kneed good bacteria to help process their feed. When you give a culture this adds good bacteria back to the fowls system.

    Thanks Mr. RayBoles.

As I've said buttermilk is nowhere to be found in PI but I think there are lots of cottage cheese being sold. So I'll use it instead.
