depend on each stag-----if cock is not ready at 24 months then you need to make stew

I think it has a lot to do with bloodlines too cause some seem to mature faster than others. so it's hard to say what age they can be shown just have to try some and get to know your birds

Re: how we know the rooster is ready for fight?

this is a very good question as alot of people pen raise fowl that have never mixed it up in battles as fowl ranged on the open farm , these pen raised birds have the instinct to fight from the egg as everyone understands that is in the breeding and impossible to be taught, however instinct and experiance of competition are two differant things which brings to mind the most beautiful hatch cock that I ever laid eyes on was raised by another fella and gifted to me and this rooster honest to goodness you would have laid 60 on looks alone but this cock sparred horrible and I could not believe my eyes but I did not give up on the cock as I fed this rooster through the selection part of the keep several times and finally the art of battle came to this cock and he got the hang of it fairly well as he disposed of 4 opponents in just a hand full of pittings and finally losing this cock in his fifth fight as he broke a leg in the first buckle

Ready enough or ready for his best. Nice to see a young super star, but waiting for him to peak is hard to do. I believe 1 1/2 years is a fair place to start. Just a back yard test to help with culling, I'll say 10 months and up. For big time shows and big money, let your young winners mature to their prime.

Two years old. Give your rooster the best chance to prove himself, after that it shouldn't be any doubts either worth keeping him or cull.

he is ready when you spar them and he is consistent with his style and he is sparring good.
Then you put him through a keep and hope to god he performs the same at the pit LOL.
