SJC International derby under way
BANNERING a powerhouse cast of more than 100 local and international cockers, the second leg of “SJC 8-Cock International Derby” blasts off today at San Juan Coliseum with Sagupaan Complexor 3000 as main backer.
Host Rodolfo Pineda, himself a winner of the NCA International Derby in 2006, has gathered a dream line-up of world champions who will vie for the guaranteed prize of P5 million.
Defending champions Patrick Antonio, Joe Sanford of California and Mayor Buddy Dunca will be pitted against equally popular cockers Sonny Lagon and Bruce Barnette of Alabama (Blue Blade Delta), Boy Marzo (BMRR Riyadh) and Jun Topacio and Gene Batiea of Missisipi.
Giant killers Sam Mendoza and Ricky Valencia, fresh from winning the Makati Invitational Derby two weeks ago, also plunges into action along with World Slasher Cup champions (first leg) Cyrus Hao and Gengen Arayata, Rep. Baby Asistio, Dori Du of Davao, 2006 Bakbakan champion Bobby Doromal, Wakee Salud of Davao, Tony Oppen, 2007 Rambulan champions Allan Siaco, Boy de Roca and Rio Salceda, Gerry Ramos, Pepito Ngo, Emil Chua, Richard Bates and 2007 GCAP Cocker of the Year Pol Estrellado and Totoy Haruta.
Peter Uren of Australia, a newcomer in the international cockfight circuit, will also see action along with other foreign participants like Jorge Torres and Emitte San Juan of California, Morinubo Taniguchi and Noriaki Morita of Japan, Joseph Toralba and James Sander of Louisiana and Paul Fassot of California.
Today’s opening round (2-cock) starts at 4 p.m. followed by the semifinal round on Wednesday and finals on Friday .
