    Re: massa's kelsos

Emmanuel 'Pacman" Massa is an old time Breeder in the south of Italian lineage who is the originator of this Massa Kelso...these are yellow legged reds with no white banners in the tail feathers! far from the most beautiful pit games any would want to imagine...they pack up powers with legs always far from the rest of the body during the strike! i have posted several of these pictures including that of Mr. emmanuel Massa in our backyard thread way back then and some of his kelsos! DeerSprings are also gearing to go down south to meet them Massa Kelsos and take some of them home! these birds are popular among Mexican cockers as well! they're excellent in any type of heels! i'll post some pics...hahanapin ko pa!

    Re: massa's kelsos

    Felon,

That was my error. Yes, He does breed some Asil/Kelso Crosses, but is better known for his Kelso.

I read that Emanuel Massa bred and sold fowl to the Late Duke Hulsey and may have been instrumental in the Duke Hulsey Lemon.

Mr. Massa is a fine Gentleman and a respected and honorable man.

When I recently spoke to him, I meant to ask him about the Asil Crosses and the Lemons, but, forgot about it at the time.

    Re: massa's kelsos

Ive seen alot of this Massa Kelsos wayback in Copper State derbys!... I know this Mexican handler & gaffer, his name is Chichi, who always used this strain in SK or KL!... I had the chance to inquire about the composition of this particular bloodline & said, " They are basically Kelsos but with infusion of Brownred ".

    Re: massa's kelsos

I have a couple of trios of Mr Emmanuel Massa kelsos .This old time breeder has two diferent type of kelsos . One is the dark red hackle, yellow legs ,and the other is lighter in color in the hackle ,whith white hackle in the bottom and lighter yellow legs closer to white legs , the chickens raised of the last one are spangled breast when they are young.........must important is that is fhigthin style are the same,.........when you sparr this cocks they are so strong that becomes dificult to have them in your hands...they are excelent cutters and the don't need to bite his adversary..........PURE.......... LEGGS..........regards from mexico

    Re: massa's kelsos

I recently acquired a pair of Massa Kelso from a Mexican breeder(Tino) in Sunland,CA. They are now in my farm in Quezon and am crossing with the Cowan Rh from the same breeder. His Pinoy Handler told me that his win % with them is 90%(????). I saw them spar and throw lots of feet. Hopefully I'll be able to test them next stag season.

From Right to left, Yours Truly, Emanuel Massa, Baldemar Corral of Durango Mx, Senor Massa's son.!

From what I saw at the intercontinental Derby, they have a medium break and throw a lot of feet, head back and feet forward.

    Saludos,
