I still have the old Bates fowl in the 70's.They come blue and green legged mostly peacomb, dark red some come with lemon rings on their hackles. They are medium breakers,a little abang and becomes agrressive as the fight goes on.They are very strong with infighting.Gusto nila dikit ang laban. They usually make frontal strikes straight to the opponents chest followed by 1,2,3 punches. Their blows get stronger when they get hurt.Contact Bebot Javelosa he still has some up to now.He got his directly from Richard Bates and i got mine from him.

they are dark red in color
    green legs
    power cutting cock

when richard was still in tennessee
he rose to stardom as a good feeder
and not as a breeder first
he was showing hatch-claret at that time

    Re: richard bates hatch

i agree with lanipao about the bates hatch. super powerful get stronger as the fight progresses. these roosters don't sulk. dark red, green legged(mclean) and the speckeled bates hatch. i believe these hatch are more suited for gaff and shortnife. we purchased these rooosters in the 80's from ernest atkins(butcher hollow), oscar atkins brother.

exactly the same richard bates fowl i used to have
when i was still in my college days
    in the philippines
    they mature early

    i noticed that
    when they matured
they tend to lose some speed
but would gain much more hitting power

i love fighting them as stags
    they are fast,agrressive
    and cut well

    Sir Express,

Is Richard from Soddy Daisy, TN? The reason I asked is because there is an old breeder in Soddy Daisy who is known for his Hatch breeds. He swear that Richard, before he went to PI, got most of his stocks direct from his farm. His Hatches are really powerful birds with very good station. His farm is like 2+ hours from where I live.

    Sir Lanipao,
My Mclean stag fights exactly the same way you describe them. I bred him to my Roundhead-kelso hen and the biddies, now 2 months old, all look good -- dark red, peacombed, white legs (from hen) and with good station. At six week old, they started fighting and they showed powerful blows and I have to separate them to avoid further damage. One young stag even started crowing (he sounds awkward though, pumipiyok pa).

    Pre Swallow,

I think that's how they called it then, Bigtail Hatch. There was even an article about it in one of the Cockfighting magazine in PI (late 80's or early 90's?, I can't remember). The featured cock is even named King Richard. Really nice dark red fowls. I tried to acquire some but its too expensive for me at that time (I ended up buying a pair of Asil biddies from Serge Capistrano and that is when my "obsession" for Asil started. Ooops, out of topic, I'm sorry).

    yfis,
    Engkanto
