Re: Madigan clarets
madigan clarets are not true claret there yellow leged the are very fast and agresive because there an whitehackle claret cross thats been line breed and called clarets true clarets are whiteleged and solid white anything else is a cross thats been line breed and gave the name and anyone who tells u diffrent dont know what there talking about. just like there is no such thing a a green leged claret its a hatch rooster, and pure sids arent like some u see on here there black strait comb with either black or slate colored legs

Re: Madigan clarets
The madigin clarets my dad had years ago was 100% straight comb and 100% white legged with black spurs. The old brood cock was covered in white specks and never threw a stag with white specks and the hens were light red with the biggest combs you ever seen.

Son, why do you think they are named Claret? It's because the originals were the color of Claret Wine (red). The Whites came later, J.H. Madigin made the Clarets and they came both WL and YL.

Re: Madigan clarets
I got my Madigan Clarets from Red Fox Farm and the stag is an aggressive flyer and does well in sparring. He is medium station. I got 5 "pure" Clarets out of the single mating and hen hatched the first try.
The chicks are almost 2 months old now

Re: Madigan clarets
The Original Clarets came both yellow and white legged. 100% st8 comb. After over 60 years with clarets, we've/i've gotten an ocassional yellow legged one, but mainly stags. All anyone has to do is read Mr. Madigans own letters and you'll see where he states they came both colored legs. Sooo many people think they know exactly how Madigan bred his fowl and will tell ya exactly how he bred them. When in fact there wasnt two people in the world knew how he bred them!! Those millionaires dint go around telling how thier fowl were bred and would tell you off in no uncertain terms if you even asked them. That's like the Marsh Butchers, does anyone think they wont throw a yellow leg?? Well guess again!! And Madigan did breed some Butcher blood into his clarets. Plus he bred a Lowman whitehackle into this clarets and then bred it out! How about the Duryea Whitehackles that supposedly started the clarets. Anyone wonder what E.W. Law (madigans' partner at one time) bred into the clarets after he started walking them at his place??

Re: Madigan clarets
I bought a trio of white clarets from a great man in ohio. The stag is yelloe legged straight combed, one pullet is the same (YL St Comb) and the other pullet is white legged and straight combed. I really like them

What bloodline of clarets are your fowl, Sir Bully?
They're sharp-looking fowl. They remind me of my Alexander Griffin clarets.

i will assume it's an Albany.in some articles of the old gamecock magazine.Law was quoted by saying that all his chicken contain a little of the albany blood.just speculating as only the owners have the real knowledge of the fowl.

Re: Madigan clarets
The information i got about the Madigan Claret is that they can come both yellow and white legged. The also can can come straight or pea combed. The is comes from a old gentleman that new Madigin. His father and uncle waled roosters for Madigin.
