BROODCOCK: Care - Nutrition - Preparation - Proven Mating Techniques

    Dear Cockmates...

Much have been said about Care - Nutrition - Preparation & Proven Mating Techniques in our "Broodhens / Pullets"...

Now is the time to dissect information on how to do the same with our priceless "Broodcocks / Broodstags"...

    Some suggested questions...

    * What do you think would be the ideal Care and Nutrition for our "Brood Cocks/Stags"?...

    * Do we need to Prepare and Condition the "Brood Cocks/Stags like ready to fight cocks before mating?...

    * What are your Proven Techniques & Systems successfully done in mating...

    * How many pairs (max) in a season shall a "Brood Cock/Stag should have in order for him to be an effective producer... and not just wasting his valued semen in extra sex?

    * How often shall a "Brood Cock/Stag" mates a pair... daily?

    * Which way is more effective... having the Brood Cock/Stag live in pen together with his pair/s... or separate him in another pen or on cord?...

This thread is for the benefit of everyone... thus everyone is welcome to share their expertise, experiences, views and opinions for everyone to learn...

    Please share... thank you!!!

multi vit. is very important in maintaining our broodfowls.
    good nutrition, best quality feeds.
i only do single mating thats y why my BC is on cord. we only put them with the hens every 2-3 days. this way stress can be lesen both 4 the cock n hen.
little sunlight in the morning is must.

i condition first the b-cock at the same time the hens! i just let them loose in the yard/pen everything is natural...... freedom of both hens/b-cock when they want to copulate! i use trapness to avoid mixed-up of eggs!

typical day of my broodcock...i'll pick him up and let him fly, stretch, and let him do his business...massage and deliver him to his morning sweethearts...he will catch those pullets
like catching a lrt ride in the morning...pick him up massage and give him his breakfast at the cord...give him snacks at noon; massage and bring back to his pen and cover...isolate
and rest...he should not be seeing any hen or pullet till the next mating in the evening...@4pm pick him up again, let him fly,let him do his business, massage and deliver him to his
evening sweethearts...pick him up, massage and feed him at the cords...he sleeps every
other night at the cord for added moisture or pen...cocks are most active in the morning and afternoon...

    Victory Lane,

    Thanks a lot pre...

Another great system you got there...

Top priority is the general healthy of our broodfowls...

    Single mating is always preferred...

And avoiding too much stress for the BC is a must...

Being on cord most of the time... he will be able to relax and be a better producer...

    Good luck to your breeding...

    Sir Kogz,

Nice input there... thanks a lot for sharing

But I thought... the typical day for your brood-cock is... take him out and let him hung, juggle a bit and let him loose... and chase his sweethearts. After a few matings, clean him up and massage a bit and put him back into the pen... to rest.

    Wouldn't it be great?

we should light them up at 4:30 or 5 AM and they should have access to a lot of sunlight at least 2 weeks before breeding season starts. If we don't do this our first batches of eggs will have poor fertility.

I am referring to the newly molted broodcocks, not the broodstags.

I'll throw some farm raised crickets in with them. Must be farm raised from reputable breeders. No parasites high in calcium, good protien. And they love to chase after them. keeps thier minds from gettin stale in a pen.
