lets leave to expert the systematic, but if no reply, try to condition it the same way you condition your cock on a 21 day or 30 method. only the main factor on stag is breed, selection, and pre conditioning which starts 3 months before the derby.

    Re: conditioning method for stags

No need to work stags as hard as cocks. Stags will condition theirself, just move them around several times a day...scratch box, teepee, drop pen, flypen, rest stall. We try to move our stags 5x a day and we give them a quick spar 2x a week. Give them hens sometimes. Most important for stags is the mental conditioning, put them in travel boxes often so they will be familiar with traveling and also be sure they are familiar with different color birds. This is what works for us, but there are as many ways as there are cockers. Just my thoughts......

    Re: conditioning method for stags

I suggest to condition them the same way as cocks. Though you do need to select a mentally ready bird. Your keep method for cocks shouldnt be hard worked anyways, so I say stick to what works with your cocks.

    Re: conditioning method for stags

condition them like cocks but adjust due to the age of the roosters. I prefer long conditioning periods for stags, as opposed to 21 days for cocks. Orientation is key, getting them acquainted to being handled, to noise, to traveling etc.. I also prefer sparring them regularly, progressing as the weeks pass, to a point i spar them to much older cocks. Dont forget teasing them with a hen, just to spruce up their hormones and last be very sensitive and attentive to them. Furthermore, dont forget PRE-CON is as important as conditioning.....
