    leiper hen question

greetings to all. anyone here raise leipers? do they throw pure black pullets? or is that a throwback? i do not raise leipers and just wanting to know.

i saw some leipers at my friends place and all of his stags look like dark hatches, but a few of his pullets running around look like black roundheads without the dark faces. all are peacombed.

    thank you for any info.

Bred Jimmy East, Sr. Liepers over 15 years with no black anything showing up - just your typical dark Leipers. Check my gallery if you want to see - they all look pretty much alike.

I have Jimmy East Leiper and Rat Graves Leiper, they're both dark wine red but never black, you can pretty much see if it's pure, look around the eyelids..they are dark, wine red in color and sometimes throw some straight combs...

how they fight? they are world class fighters, age them a little and they can ground and pound, they are not high strung like other hatches...high flyers, cut good and calculate their move before punching...once you got hit, it's mostly one time....you're gone!!!

These are the racoons that my dogs caught trying to dine on my chickens.

    Re: leiper hen question

In MY Humble Opinion The Best thing you can do if you just got them from a breeder ( BIGNAMED OR NOT) and have only just started breeding them and brought them as "PURE LEIPER" ask him, he may have refreshed his lines with Black blood.
If you have been breeding them for many years and you have blacks on your yard or your neighbour does then maybe something may have jumped the fence so to speak or a fowl was marked wrong.
    Hope this helped
    Cheers

you can fight them pure...or cross...they are good cross for greys, RH and lemons...well I am talking as I have experience it for breeding... I haven't tested them to other breeds. These are the kind of hatches that don't really look good but put money in your pockets during game time. Good cross to blacks also...they don't fight close like other hatches, the advantage of that is they don't get injured a lot or when they got injured, only slightly!

We have had many dark red, but never any black ones except for the 1/2 McRaes we raised about 10-12 years ago.
