I have a Boston RH due to fight on Dec. 22 on a 3 cock derby. All his male siblings already won and he's the last one not yet fought. If he luckily survive the test, a Lacy pullet is waiting for him - F1's a double RH cross.

I also got an F1 hen cross of an original hen from Gene Batia's Dan Gray RH.

Question Re: Best Roundhead To Date

That is a hard question to answer.

I truely believe that all the great RH blood of today started from a single source, whether it be Bruner, Boston, Allen, Lacy and so on. These many named breeds of RH were developed by individuals that liked them and tended to add their own infusion of whatever blood they saw fit until they were satisfied, then named them. There are many names given in this post about folks like Dan Gray, the late, Billy Abbot, Dee Cox, Larry Romero, Gary Gilliam, Jr. Belt, but is any one of these individuals done so well with them without another breeders influence?? I too would like to add a few names that may have had their RH fowl a bit longer than any of these folks of today's time. Butch,"AKA" "Irishcut" has had the Allen Fowl that he still raises for I believe four generations of his family. The late George Woods, Carl Davis who I believe recieved Their RH fowl from Mr. Lacy himself. As I remember being told by the late Harold Brown, I believe he said "his were Lacy blood and he would always look to Mr. Woods, and Carl Davis for fresh blood when it was needed". The late Hugh Norman was an excellent breeder and geneticist and it still shows in his lineage of fowl today.

I was always partial to Rh fowl. I first bred Allen RH but it quickly ran out and I had no source to help replenish it, Wish I had known Irishcut then. I then turned to the Norman RH fowl in 1974 and found it to be the best for me and my program. Mine came direct from Mr. Norman, but we all know he has long since been deceased.

There are many fine breeders out there that have exceptional RH fowl. Best of luck to anyone looking for the best RH to date.

    Cliffking,

Thanks for the nice post. Just like any others here, I could have been more fortunate to have known you before you retired from active breeding as I have lost my chance to acquire some of your good blood. However, just like you said, Butch was their for me and parted with a blue ribbon Allen broodcock and a pair of hens he personally used, for me to breed. I single mated them and crossed both ways to Sweaters. Though I still need to test them, I have found an absolute nick as far as power, physical and mental being, disposition and character. It's amazing how a well bred homozygote can do wonders with another family. Butch has kept this family from his Dad for over 60 years and I could not find any need to add an outside blood yet...unless probably if I screw up.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
