I would have to say Lonny Harper/Mule Train, Gene Batia, Cedar Creek, Sammy Ramsey and Mel Simms/Liberty Farms.

    2. Pete teamed with jerry glass/ Joe walcotte SK
Was extremely tough at sunset won many derbies including wcc one year- pete
joe- sunset cocker of the year went far in the sunset mains always tough
    3. Sammy gaff
sunset cocker of they year most of the time 70 to 100 favorite

    Who is/was your favorite cocker?

Rock, those are some pretty damn good choices to hold top honors. I've been fortunate to have seen Dee Cox & Iron City compete in the knife and they're as tough as they get. Let's just say if I had to show against them, I would go ahead and begin calling 70! LOL! Another tough entry in the LK would be Long Leaf Game Farm.

As for the gaff, I've never had the luxury of seeing the Ramseys show but anybody that is a 70/100 favorite @ Sunset in the gaff has got to be almost impossible to beat because I'm not sure how much tougher gaff gets than Sunset.

I have also seen entries like Twin Lakes compete (not sure if they're together anymore), Yellow Rose, Pleasant Valley, Rolling Hills (Charlie Johnson), Pete Vega (Diamond P) and they're all as tough as I've seen at the Bayou Club in their respective heels. Let's just say if you don't knock these entries out in the first couple of buckles, they will break your spirit in the drag. (gonna miss the good ol' days at the Bayou Club)

As for some honorable mentions that belong in that same company of top U.S. competitors, that would be you (Rockwell GF) in the knife and a good friend of our family, Mr. Jaime Cervantes of Black Mamba GF. Around the Texas region and in Mexico, most of the big wigs carry some type of Black Mamba breed to compete in the short knife. His birds are well suited for the knife since they have awesome speed, super cutting ability, plenty of vertical and have lots of bottom when needed. I have personally witnessed his Sweater crosses get severely hurt and pull out an unbelievable come-from-behind win just based on pure gameness and the desire to continue breaking at the short line, even while the opposing bird was on top.

BTW, forgive me if I left any other names out as I'm sure there are plenty of others that I never had the chance to see compete, but I like to base my opinion on what I've personally witnessed over time. AND for God's sake people, please stick to the subject of this thread! I have never seen so many forums go off on a tangent like I do here on Sabong.net.

Baloney thread. Sabong is a gentlemen's sport and breeding is a continuing process. Humility among professional breeders is their primary traits. Your bird may win today perhaps and may be you'll loss some the following day. Not that your cock was not good, may be your bird was even better in all parameters. But your cock loss the contest because the lady luck was on the other side, just may be. Or let may say it the other way...the Lady Luck was not with you. Yes, just may be!

All breeders have their time. I don't know a certain breeder that dominates this sports for a very long time. They may win a certain derby and scored zero on others!

Sammy Ramsey in gaff. This morning we went to see a friend somewhere out there. Last 2 weeks ago he fought 11 cocks main against a well known gull lover and he won the main beating him six straight fight and the remaining 5 cocks he brought it to another place the following week and won the 5 cocks derby, very impressive but true.

I would have to say Sam Abott does pretty damn good in the knife http://calabsa.tripod.com/

also in the knife was the Late Johnny Bennet of the "blackhat entry"
It has been said that he had probably the best chickens in the world while he was alive....
he had to have a house built for his trophies he won..
alot of big time breeders remember gettin whooped by him.
