Hello, i was gonna put in my two cents. Has anyone tried the knives made by Alfonso Sanchez Mendoza? He's in Morelia, in the state of Michoacan.

I stay away from sarazuas, have never been able to cut with them. I guess they are just not for me. Have some other red forks with no name on them, dont even remember where i got them, had them about five years and still going strong. They are deadly, i think each time they get sharpend the better they cut! Lol

Zarazua makes different styles some birds don't cut with certain knives the birds swing the knife and make the cut, we are arguing the quality of the knife whether our birds cut or not is either the breed or on us, Salvador Zarazua knives are very good quality slashers

I guess what im trying to say is i see better quality in the smaller, not as popular brand knives, than the big name ones. Maybe the smaller guys put more effort into them, i dont know. Just stating my experiance as i own sarazuas and other cheaper brand knives, like i said i rather use the cheaper ones, im aware of the different styles, i use rectas and media luna its all i have ever used

I have used all of the big name brands in mexico and i think that bugarin knives are the best , they are probably the only ones that you can use straigh out of the package.

A question to Leo g, What do you mean by using straight out of the package? I've heard of people fixing them but don't know by what means or why. During the 90's we use to use calleros straight out of the package and sometimes they were good for a 2nd go round. Both times winners, now that I think about it, it was kind of dumb lol.

Hi Peanut, what i mean is that when buy knives you basically buy the cuality of the steel, but these guys make hundreds a day so they dont really take the time to send them the best they can be, so i take them to a guy who only sharpens them and they are much better, the bugarin knives are the only ones that i would use just the way he sends them.

Well I like to use the red leg with stag's and/or light weight rooster because get inside more easy but it's also much weaker at the tip. And the blue leg knife it's more robust wide strong and works better with strong heavy weight rooster's.

Re: Mexican short knives " best makers"

I've tried Calleros, Zarazúa & Especiales. My favorites are the Especiales.

Granted I don't know much about knives, but those get the most praise from whomever handles my shows.

I do need a good sharpener, though. Maybe I'll give Lalo & Beto a call.

zarazuas are getting bootleged allot now a days there not what they used to be.especially here in tijuana. Even some cheap orange knives they sell at copper state are better they can take 6 sharppenings and still won't bend or lose the tip.:
