    Brood pen pics

I am going to start building brood pens and was wondering what everybody else was using. I am going to single mate and was wondering what size pens I should build. I was thinking 4 X 8 X 6...been so long since I built brood pens just wanted to see what others had. Thanks, Bobby

If you are single matting that size is perfect, and for a trio no less than 6󭅊tall

I do all single mating, and like some of you mentioned. give them as much room as posible. Mine are 4x8x8 with straw in them for them to scratch. I keep the water and feed cups about 2 feet high.

Here is the entrance to my brood pens (40 in total)

This is the the inside of them

Single mating 4x4x4 is plenty of room. Tuck nest box back in a corner and let nature take its course. LOL I got room to build bigger pens but, when on a strict budget these will do great. Especially if you are using several hens and 1 cock.

The space in between is wasted. Two spaces like these would be another pen. Just cover the end of the roost poles so that the cocks won't see each other. You can also save from additional wood for the door. Just a suggestion!

    young gun,

Go to gamerooster.com and pm steve1. Or search for the pen itself. The way it looks it's probably 4'X4'X6'.

Those pens are not mine. They belong to Steve1 @gamerooster. I believe he said he is a carpenter.

I can only do square pens and round pens.

    Orientexpress, miguelito,gaff,Sir2PE!

    Thanks for your kind comments.

    Jellybullard!

Man, I rather not think about. don't let the wife find out, because I'll be in the dog house for quite some time.

    Blackcrow,sids!

No, she is not a Sid Hen. She is a Blue Henny Hen (99.9% Mug bloodline from my good friend Richard Kelley). She alike most of the males are very dark bllue color can easy be mistaken by solid black color when in the shade or dark. I do get black hens, and solid black roosters too, Henny and Regular rooster feather.

Nice pens. I built 6 of these back in the late 80's, a friend of mine is using them now! Got out of the sport about 12 years ago and these breeding pens are still around. Just started back up again this time I am building a 3 stall breeding pen with each stall at 5x6x6. My old pens were 5x5x6.
