most of your black fowl are fairly good sk roosters but i would have to stay with the kelsos, radio hatch and albany any of these you cant go wrong with ive used them all and the albany radio and hatch are my favorite

    heres some pics

    albany

    penny hatch

Get yourself some kelso, roundhead, and hatch... breed them together you'll have great battle crosses... last season I bred some sweater to radio and the offspring are looking very promising at 10 months... all we show in is the sk so hope this helps! Good luck on your breeding.

Hatch Roundheads,,,Hatch Albanys , Hatch Kelsos is what i used for the short knife and i like the mid station roosters bcs i feel they recoil alot faster than the very tall ones.....

bearclaw, some of Mike Ratliff's Generals looked like the Radio in your post, also Mike's crosses that carried Whitehackle or Albany resembled that cock.

I have fought a lot of sk and love it that is all i show in. I have experinced that its not really a certain breed. u need a rooster that is fast and powerful.

    Re: Good short knife fowl

I like radio/rh, whitehackle/rh albany/rh radio/macrae whitehackle/mcrae,dirty greys and asil grades for sk i stay away from fowl that have cutting issues. I cross cut on cut the whitehackle and radio have power and cut the others have smarts, speed and cut. Them birds that throw alot of hay makers and cut by volume do well in lk and gaff because u have that long weopon but have trouble in sk. My sweaters are great in lk but in sk dont do to well if i use them i have to cut them to a 1/4 i feel the same way about alot of hatch blood and ive tried several over the years. Rubles, penny and blueface i had the best luck with. I like fowl that throw there legs up under ther wing of the other and rip back. These style of cutters kill fast. Lk chickens that stay further back and cut to the chestor front of the fowl do not do well in sk. Just my thoughts and dont matter anymore since i cant fight anymore but this is what i liked

    Re: Good short knife fowl

My Cecil Kelso have won a high percentage for me in the SK. Also surprisingly my Blues (which I have been breeding for LK) have turned out to be ideal SK fowl. Throwing lots of power, and a ton of feet to the neck and under the wings is what you want.

    Re: Good short knife fowl

Whitehackles need I say more they was bred for shortheels so long why not take them in sk to? I know several people who have done very well with whitehackles in sk.

Blues can do it in the sk also.

I prefer medium to medium high station for sk. Them medium high station if they worth a crap will wreck one on the fly.

Medium station fowl are hard to beat in sk.

We've won more derbys, and mains with asil grades. But the muffs, doms, and toppies can get it done without the asil blood.
