Bingham clarets were at one time some of the best clarets around don't know if anyone still has them. Mr. Bingham died a longtime ago. I had chickens from Bingham in the early 80's through Joe Gaspar who used to import a lot of gamefowl to Hawaii from all over the US

are they clarets or roundheads?.....they are supposed to be red bird, yellow leg, pea comb......victor sierra of super ss gamefarm bred the trio and had golds come out of the birds acquired by bingham before he died.....thus the bingham golds.....these reds are game to the end and smart....

If I remember correctly the Bingham's were a cross or blend of claret and butcher. I could be mistaken, I could ask Jr. as he would possibly know.....

Hey Mike, the answer might be in the words below....LOL I wonder who wrote this... LOL

About the original Hulseys, John Pipes did make them, but I understand that the hens were Claret/Barnett Wonders and the original cock was a Holmes "Aviator" Roundhead, thus making them 1/2 Rh and 1/4 Claret and 1/4 Barnett Wonder. Many people confuse Bingham with Bigham. Sam Bigham's were the ones that showed the Pumpkins and were well known as superior cocks in this area of Texas. "

Quite a few of the Bighams came looking like dark red Clarets, which bloodlines they did carry, along with Butcher and Roundhead.

    Re: BINGHAM REDS

Sam Bingham died and (who was kind to him) Charlie Crenshaw got all his chickens he lived in Houston, Tx
what I understood from him they were 1/2 Roundhead and 3/8 Claret with 1/8 some of the brown blood in the claret side now I think the brown blood was Marsh blood!!! Most was wine red stright comb chickens!! Ever so often you would get a punkin looking one!
This Brown Blood was used to make the walton hatch!

People keep confusing Roy Bingham, with Sam Bigham, one was never in the class of the other....

    Re: BINGHAM REDS

my binghams are diffrent than wildfoots. Mine are Sam Bingham variety and wildfoot from stringking. Ours were st.comb, wine red and yellow leg. They were claret murphy blend as wat i remember with dash of e.h hulsey. Had a pumpkin color pop out. But the reds were better in my opinion. I wished them blood was still around. Victor

    Re: BINGHAM REDS

I used to have the bingham reds, they were straight comb wine red white legs, got mine from from gentleman by the name of Frank Haderton in Texas, he used to go under the name of Caprock. Some of the best roosters i've ever owned. Just didn't know how to keep them. I remember them to be very strong and easy to handle. Think Wayne Mayfield used to have em

    Re: BINGHAM REDS

Ok... I had some Bigham at one time. My first Brood cock that i ever had was a 1/2 Bigham - 1/2 Minor Red Cross. He was giving to me by older gentleman who got me and my brother hooked on game fowl. Now im not sure who was in which Class or the better Class. Roy Bingham, or Sam Bigham... String king has the name for sure but those Bigham's could flat fight, And to date probably the best brood cocks we ever owned.

Roy was a likeable man, but to tell the truth he was a terrible drunk, Roy was very intelligent and a good salesman, He worked for Bell helicopter, but he never was in Sam's league, no hard feelings, but it's the truth. Sam fought the big circuit, along with Kelso and Madigin. Roy had Shotgun Kelso he was proud of. The dark red pearl leg are most likely from Sam B-I-G-H-A-M. He got some of fowl direct from Madigin, and developed his own family. Mainly Claret, Butcher, and Roundhead.
