    China Gamefowl?

Has anyone ever messed around with the china fowl? I have a stag and hes nice...my dad gifted it to me and it is one of my favorite because of the gene/characteristic which lets their tail and saddle feathers to grow pretty long

    Re: China Gamefowl?

All the game fowl from China that I am aware of are all naked heel type chickens , cocking is quite a popular sport in rural china so I am told , were they hold many festivals and parades specifically for fighting cocks......I guess people have the right to call their chickens what ever they like .

    Re: China Gamefowl?

Well im a noob to this whole thing! lol
When the package arrived at the house i opened it up and took him out, and called my dad over telling him his rooster arrived but he told me it was for me. I took a quick glance over him and thought he would have an asil-ish fighting style, but he didnt.. I saw this blue line that had asil, china, spanish or peruvian cant remember and some other bloods in their make up and thought it was different but cool in a way.

Partially true ,they have a small percentage to give them the long tail .
Chinese immigrant workers had these birds while working on his farm. The long flowing tail are traits you see in many big time breeders fowl today .the trait was added for appearence for they are not dead game .

in VN we used to associate yellow legs w/ Chinese meatbirds (white legs are preferred (just like with asils in India), but we also like the power of the dark legs)... until the American's yellow legs were imported and started kicking butts... no more looking down at yellow legs.

There used to be a guy down the road from me that had them. I don't really know alot about them or even if he still has them but will try to find out for you. I thought about getting some and trying them but I got enough breeds as it is now.

If you like them because of the way they look that's fine I must admit they do look cool but as for showing them in SK, LK or gf you might be breeding them for a while before they can handle steel but they look cool.

    Re: China Gamefowl?

Some are good some are just plain barnyard chickens. You treat them like the real deal and they will turn to a real deal. You let them go to roam and free ranged and they will assimilate with other chickens with no problem at all. I should know, I had them way back in the 50s. My half chinese/filipino grandfather, who used to be called "Don" and wears nothing but white hat, and white clothings, was one of the stalwart in the hobby back home. He had these in one of his houses then. I only regret he did not live that long to get to be close to him.
