    Re: Warhorse fowl

The warhorse fowl are very fast and they could cut but lack the gameness. But when u cross them there will be a big difference. From experience they crossed good with greys, hatch, and asil.

    Re: Warhorse fowl

Well black fowl are known for the lack of gameness and not to last in the drag. I think that they have to make the first big moves cause if hey get caught first I think it's over for them and they just go down after that point.

I have to disagree with the lack of gameness in the warhorse....I have my brood warhorse wich is a multiple show winner and very game. but I crossed him with my red quill hens and had a lot of success lots of legs.. speed birds best cross thus far.then crossed them with the red fox grey this past year.

I think it depends on a lot of things but would agree that as they (Warhorse) are not a very large breed in terms of numbers, you should cross maybe a hatch or something for your battle cross. There is not a huge population base to draw on.

Warhorse were very deep once and I guess over the years the shuffle type has tended towards speed traits. Just like the Eslin Red Quills, they eventually had to had 'something' and breed them back to pure percentage. Also some strains do well with some folks and not others and if you over condition them they can go 'off.'

What wins for one bloke may not win for another, even though the blood is identical!

Been a real long time since seeing a Warhorse at shows. Always see other Blacks though, and I too disagree with Blacks lacking gameness.
