    Re: postiza fowl

Eddie what heel was that fight in?? Was that in Natural spurs? To tell you the Truth neither of them birds were worth a crap. I don't want no bird that Takes 25 mins. to kill the other bird. They both took a beating, but neither one of them could cut there way out of a wet paper bag in my opinion..Thanks for Sharing..

    Re: postiza fowl

Eddie: For years I use to show in the Short Postizas 22mm -24mm, Back when it was the heel of choice and we showed lots of stags & Cocks and most of the time they never went past 8-10 mins. until one was dead.. So I do know Short spurs my Friend and I stick to what I said before, Those Stags threw alots of feet, But were not cutting..

Eddie: Pollos means Stags in Spanish, Gallos is Cocks.. That Clearly says Gallos not Pollos..

I was just thinking that the other day Al... I feel the same way... The time limit here is 20mins and when i recently started going to the pit(last season) i see a draw most of the time and a few wins in between and hardly any kills... I just started in this and i want my birds to cut to kill... The faster the better....

Reaper you in the USVI or the BVI??? Those look like the 1.6 that some pits in PR use. I prefer the Short spurs, But most the Pits in PR are using the 1.9 and in Miami its the #3s which are equal to the 1.9 of Puerto Rico.. The Time limit in PR is now 14 mins. but they are going to lower it to 12 mins. this year.Good Luck in the 2014 season my Friend..

    Re: postiza fowl

Eddie the 24mm is one inch from bottom of hub to tip of spur, When mounted and taped you only have 3/4" of penetration no matter how high the natural spur nub is. Plus They have to clear the gauge or be Disqualified or have to go re heel your bird.. In the real quality pits, you must use the house spurs, you do not bring your own spurs to the pits.. And the Cubans trim the natural spur to about maybe a 1/8" bump before mounting the spur, no one leaves a 1/4 inch nub on the legs, it would never pass the gauge .. You have to remember that the Spurs are glued on to the leg wrap and then wrapped in string and then wrapped again in tape,

They might just be 1.6. I never actually measured them and never had one fresh from the pack so i'm not sure. What i have at home are used spurs i got from my uncle i plan on using for testing. The spurs are purchased at the pit on fight day... 14 mins is kool. You shud be able to get the job done in that time frame. Less time more fights... I thought they used the 1.6's in PR...

Im not in any of the VI's... I'm all the way down in St.Lucia...
Not participating this season Will only be a spectator...lol... All i have are my first set of stags. 5 months old, they look promising... Maybe next season...

Just measured them and they are indeed 1.6..

Even so Al, that is a 1/4 of an inch ( half a centimeter ) longer reach than even the 20 millimeters spurs used here for a two year old cock.

On top of that with those postizas you have 3/4 inch of pentration and a reach of a whole inch.

You don't have any of this with 3/4 inch "naked heel"

Stags don't even have that length.

    Re: postiza fowl

Mostly Tradition my Friend. Some think it makes for stronger Top beak, less likely to hull.. It was Started by the Spaniards Long Ago when bring Roosters on ships to the new World, they would put a Hood/blind fold over the Roosters Eyes to keep them calm, That Nipple would keep the Blind fold from sliding off over the end of the birds beak.. And that Traditional cut still exist today. I don't trim mine like that, I trim down to the skull from back to front like the American Game fowl.. Hope this answers your Question.. yf Al Sanchez

And remember in this Sport of Postizas, many fights are Won at the Scales at Matching time and by Well conditioned Birds... Honestly dont know if they are andy hightowers , i never investigated if they were. I am sure they are game and cutters. they also have shake and bake. They dont die trying to get a bill hold. They are amazing. He never sold me blemished birds which to me is very important.

Salesman that does not compete with Roosters. Andy Hightower. Good Sales Pitch. If your looking for Good Postiza Birds, Buy from someone who competes, Not just sells fancy names..
