The best Clemonts blood come from the Brady family. Tom Hargus got his start from R. Brady.

Davey is the closest your gonna get to jumpers Clemons. David Brady told me his grey blood came from South Carolina. No doubt the Brady's and R and R have good greys. The original Clements were straight comb. I wasnt there when they made them, just what I heard and what I prefer.

    Re: Clement Greys?

I saw one of the posts on this thread that someone was crossing the Clement blood over lieper. I was wondering how that turned out? I have a Lieper hen setting on the same cross eggs right now and another one in the brood pen with the Clement cock.

I know that coal dust farms breeds leiper and grey for some of their crosses. might want to get a hold of them and see how they like it. im sure they do since they've had them for a long time. not sure how clement leiper would work but im sure you may try it out and see.

Good cross Gr8games. We use Clement Grey from David Brady and Leipers hens. The leiper are faster than your typical hatch fowl like Bates and seem to cross very good with the Brady grey. The Greys are very strong with a wide back and they are a Grey/Hatch cross to begin with. So they already have billhold/shuffling style so they cross good with the fast footed leiper. We cross some bates/Clements crosses and they were too slow and powerful. Not good for the shortknife but if we competed in the gaff they were probably good.

    Re: Clement Greys?

Glad to hear they worked out. I hatched out 10 chicks so far of the Clement/ Lieper cross and put the cock in with some other Lieper hens. I would like to get a dozen stags to try. I have some Bates grey I may try the cross over lieper and clement hens next year.

Mike I don recall the whole story about Bills old Lawnmower cock. Do you have any knowledge bout em. I do remember him having the first chocaletes I ever seen. My godfather got a hen from Vera and it was a nice buttermilk gery hen that when crossed to Mcleans were excellent fowl. The little hen had a really light blue leg.

The Lawnmower cock was a brassback grey, yellowleg cock....he got his name when Vera wound his cord up with a Lawnmower and cut his foot off. He went on to be a very good brood cock. Vera gave me a buttermilk, blue leg pullet in 1970 that she said was out of a cock from Joe. I remember the Kirkland cock, T-Pot, Nicodemus,The Nic Stokers, Ten-Buck-Too, Whiskers, the Buddies( Pumpkins), The Leach, and others.

Never was known to hold back, sorry! It was nothing more than a question to see if you really knew what you spoke of. I quess I should just say thank you for knowing of the story I had heard as a youngster. As my some-timers turned to all-timers I Question the accuracy of my own memories from time to time.

No they are not straight combed birds they are 100% pea combed and come blue and green legged it's very rare that they would come straight comb as they would line breed using the radios...... Jumper and Roy Brady were partners they split up because Roy's wife was having an affair with jumper who then she gtel:80231228ot married to they then split the birds half and half and went their own ways.....so they are the same they just don't give credit to one another

Good gaff fowl can fight in any weapon. the reason the best lk and sk breeds come from the states is because they were all proven in the gaff first.

Did everybody have a good breeding season this year?

How many straight bred Clement greys did you hatch?

Keep it going, the summer & molt are here, don't neglect the extra care demanded, this season.
