    Re: showing in the LK

i wouldn't care about the name i would care about the birds... a smart bird that cuts will beat a power shuffling bird with no brains most the time in the l/k.. we have some birds that when you drop them.. they'll ease over.. when the bird leaps at ours he dodges and hits... side steps and hit... just smart birds.. the thing is.. they hardly ever get hit... so they win most the time.. cause if you can't hit me.. you can't hurt me..

in knife power and speed ain't a big play... you want a rooster that CUTS if he cuts good.. with a brain... you will beat them boys day in and day out.. if you watch alot of them wsc... most the time its smart birds that win... when the birds hit in the air its a 50% chance of you winning or loosing... who wants those odds when we can make it around 70% chance of winning?

thats how i see it and have won with it...

    good luck

Agree with 808, you need fowl that has brains for lk. Got to have the pit savvy with superb cutting ability.

    WHEN LEGAL

thats not true... we have some lemons that fight extremely well in the l/k and s/k... but you strap gaffs on them... they will fight.. do great... but... most the time they loose... cause they don't have the gaff fighting style... there to brainy and they don't sink the gaff they were bread to "slice" the knife.... and we have some hatch that kill most roosters dead in 3 pittings in gaff... and sometimes 2 in the s/k.. there just fast hitting power/cutting birds.. and when you put the knife on them.. they loose..cause the smart bird hits them cause they don't have the "brain"

but thats just ben our experience with our birds

    good luck

    Re: showing in the LK

LK is so unforgiving the first to score usually wins and the first to make a mistake usually losses. It is so lethal that you could pit any chicken that would initially throw its feet to another chicken and pull a fast win. It increases the element of chance in a cockfight and evens out the playing field among cockers -- a backyard breeder can take the so-called big timer.

As for traits, I would breed for timing and accuracy in their cutting.

Conditioning and pointing also will take a vital role also.
That's always the case for others.
When somebody lose in the LK, the first come to to mind of the owner is that the bird was not properly pointed!
Well, seldom we give credit to the winning bird.
