I can tell you that if those AR gaffs have the leathers attached with rivets then it's almost certainly Alan Ray. He used to rivet new sets on and sew re blades. Unfortunately he doesn't make any more. I've seen and used 1 1/2 inch death ray and they did cut real good. I bought nite owls video on gaff making and have been making my own. I don't have all the fancy equipment so I can only turn out about two pair a day, that's without hardening. That's a days work on it's own. I'm surprised to hear of professional gaff makers gaffs breaking. I haven't had one break and only one bend right on the point, but that's happened to my American sets anyway, hey this is my first reply guess I got carried away lol!

It's a balance when you harden them and then aneal them back. Too hard and they break , too soft and they bend. Nite owls advice was rather a little softer than hard. He said if your gaffs bend the customer will forgive you but if they break they'll never forgive you! I followed his method and none broke so far, but I make max 1 3/4 so a shorter gaff is less likely to break or bend I would say. I make for personal use only cos nobody ships them anymore.

They were high point twisters not too long. I believe he called them Tarheels, I believe Mr. Allen Fisher had a pair.

    Re: Gaff Maker Marks (PAST)

I have 7 pairs one with JS, D, J, CI, RB and two pairs with B so just what are the ones with B's on them? I know what the list says and there has to be a way to determine just who the B's are. I'm guessing Jeff Bakers due to me living in Tennessee and that where he's from...
