    here's our experimental crosses.....feg cross with black mcrea....we breed back the black pullet with nice toppy cross back to feg papa.

    here's some result to 7/8 experimental cross

    He looks nice Golden...I would like to try one of your birchens on my generals sometime...Im still getting situated in my breeding program, but it's nice to experiment for a little fun.

    I was taught the same. Then I read some English cocking books from the late 1800's, and what the fanciers did to the standards of gamefowl with the outlawing of the pits. Wingate brought brown red, dark leg, haw eyed fowl over from the old country and that was in the last century. I am still in agreement w/ you, that it is asil blood, but from tight bred fowl I wonder how far back that asil may go. Apparently from the book Old English Gamefowl by Herbert Atkinson (free on google) "YELLOW BIBCHEN. The brown-breasted yellow birchen with yellow eyes, beaks, and legs, are not often seen now ; they are hard, gamey-looking birds, the hackle and saddle feathers a pale straw colour, having a shade of birchen showing thoughout ; the wings brown, as are also the secondaries, wanting the bar across and white space, as seen in the Duckwings. Mr. Nunis' strain of Yellow Birchens, known as the butcher breed, from their killing qualities, held their own for some years in the early part of the present century."
