Thanks for the kind words Sir.

We really don’t have much of the RHs anymore. We kind of put their breeding on the back burner to concentrate more on our other families especially the YL Hatch.

Now to your question, the Bruners (Billy Abbot line) I got from my friend Jim Bond (j007 here ) are all light red color, both cocks and hens. The old Lacy I had were darker and hens were dark wheaten with straw neck. The Bruner/Lacy crosses were a mixed of dark and light color birds. All come WL but Jim said if I breed the Bruner too tight, I may get GL pullets. No GL pullet so far from my breeding.

Here’s a few older pictures of the Bruner and Bruner/Lacy crosses.

The dark hen on the right side is a Lacy hen.

    Re: Bruner Roundhead's

The Most unorthodox roundheads I’ve ever see were Brunners and Old Boston’s from before the 80’s. Todays rh’ move very much the same way. I had a family of Lacys that were pure Aggression, very unroundhead like.

What do you think that was in them to make them blue legged. I argue with people all the time, they say Roundheads don’t have blue legs lol

    Re: Bruner Roundhead's

I heard a story that Back in the day Rooster Village Combine bought a multiple time winner from cooper state it was a brownred that bird crossed on the brunners were unstoppable I dont know for sure but I think maybe they set a side with some of that brownred blood causing blue legs here an there u can breed them out but why would u want to. Unless the blue leg was popping out before the brownred came along. Maybe someone can shed some light on this.

    Re: Bruner Roundhead's

Wasn't the Bruner's made from Allen Round Head hens an a Mahoney Gull cock? The Allen And Shelton Round Heads were made using a Dr. Saunders Round Head cock over hens that were a blend of Grist Grady and Red Quill. I think the green legs are a throw back from the Red Quill.

HH Cowan made the Cowan by adding Gull to his Allen rhs to give them more bottom… TK Bruner worked for Cowan... they fought those rhs together... so for a while Bruner rhs are basically the same as Cowan rhs… these were/are mostly yellow legged.

what i'm not sure about is if later on, Bruner developed a different strain with his own name, or was it Willis Holding (or Willis Something) who got the old Bruner/Cowan rhs then added something else to it, and called it Bruner in honor of TK Bruner... these were/are mostly white legged, with occasional blue... if you breed a blue legged cock to a yellow legged hen, you will get offsprings with white legs and blue legs, so somewhere along the line a blue legged cock was bred to those yellow legged Cowan/Bruner hens.

so yes, there are 2 different strains of Bruners.

    Re: Bruner Roundhead's

I've had the Bruners that I got from Mr. Ken Kincannon about 20 years ago. Three years ago I got a Bruner which looked like a grey cock but instead of black and white it was light pumpkin-colored and a reddish kind of White. I have not crossed those Bruners with Greys at any time. Its a great roosted I've shown it twice and is in top shape. Has anyone had similar looking throwbacks from pure Bruners?

What is the base bloodline of these Bruners? Lacy? Allen?
