Re: How to make Tie Cords?
Mobster I would not use fishing line. Sometimes the cord can get wraped around the leg and with fishing line it may dig into the leg and do some serious damage. Just a thought.

Weedeater cord is the way to go. Crimper and some hitches also pvc 1/2 so the cord dont twist. Just google cords and look at pics thats how i lernt how.

Re: How to make Tie Cords?
I made some hitches the nylon type went to a tarp manufacturer here in town they make tarps for semi trucks got some good nylon one inch wide.bought the grommets from harbor freight.got about a hundred done and put them to use but I screwed up and used 3/8 grommets instead of 1/2 my friend complained about the larger diameter grommets digging into the legs of birds thought the smaller ones would cure it,it did but they are a pain to take off soaking them in wd40 helps though.the rooster in my avatar has one of them on him.

Re: How to make Tie Cords?
Parachute cord an some kind of swivel about 10 inches from the end of the cord so it doesnt tangle up then you put a thick nylon strap on the end to put around the leg it works great.

Re: How to make Tie Cords?
your time is better spent working, then use the money you earn to buy tie cords... they aren't that expensive.

..... I used to buy the materials from Randall Burkey ...... a treated nylon paracord and the leg hitches and the swivel ... we assemble it ourselves to cut the length we desire and a bit cheaper ..... and the pegs/stakes, we make them ourselves using rebars bending them in u-shape form about 10 inches long to secure them to the ground - with just a little part of it protruding above ground .....
...... treated nylon is better because it is stiffer which makes it safer from being tangled and last longer ... better use the neoprene leg hitch ... the nylon hitch is abrasive to the leg over a period of time ...... just sharing ...... good luck

Re: How to make Tie Cords?
For me I use a rubber cord but nylon is also fine. I make my own because I will have flexibility on the length. On both ends I use double eye swivel, bigger one will be at the stakes and smaller one will be at the easy hitch. Attaching of both ends is by crimping. On my stags is the same but I used Oklahoma hitch. Mahalo, Spectre

Man those are nice! How do you stop them pulling out at the end. I can see they're sewn but do you make a knot?

Re: How to make Tie Cords?
Yeah those do look good ! look similar to the pattern of Okla hitch, atleast they do look to function the same way- not too tight on the leg. good work !

Just burn the end of the cord and sew. Im using needle and thread used for sewing leather. u can get them in micheals. Its a wax string and may last long compare to ordinary thread.

I can buy 6' rubber cords with stakes for 6 bucks apiece, and I'll continue to do so.

it’s all the same to me as it serves it’s purpose. but this one probably cost me 40 cents a piece. if i put a homemade swivel and a paracord it will probably cost me $ 1.50 per tie cord.

for a swivel i use a thick wall pvc pipe (i prefer a 3/4 and 1" size) cut about an inch and drill a hole through and through both wall. hole should be a bit bigger than your lead cord. insert the end tip of your lead cord inward the hole and make a knot so it wont slip back out.....on the other hole do the same thing for your anchor cord
very nice easygoer....look like they are ready to be shipped
