    Re: tom hargus greys

I had some for a couple of years. Mine where flat footed(stood there after every break weighting for the other bird), slow, but when they kicked they hit the good stuff, also straight forward deep game type (that's pure). The crosses are great. I breed them to my other grey family, sweaters, and hatch. All showed very well in the gaff when it was legal. But I'm a small farm and never fought at big time pits. In my world they did well.

    Re: tom hargus greys

Can anybody pm me Mr. Tom Hargus phone #, please. I am new in this sport and I don't have any breeding material yet. I am hoping that by getting a trio from Mr. Hargus is a right thing to start with. So, please help. Thanks.

Very aggressive roosters not very manageable either, they don't like being handled. Fight like hell but just couldn't get it done for me. I have a much nicer strain of greys now which is easy the handle and get the job done..

After thought.... In my experience you just need smooth operator type fowl. No intention of discrediting toms birds. They just didn't work for me is all.

Don't suspest you have Tom's fowl unless you get direct from him, people will sell you anything for the name. His fowl are very well natured.

I believe he has the ones called the little johnny's,come from Mr Johnny Moore originally,a family of Harold Browns, and a family of Clements. Plus some of them sissy grey toppie roosters. YFIS

    Re: tom hargus greys

I'm no expert but I have Tom Hargus blood, and these are the better bred fowl Ii have ever seen or held. I got them just a couple of years but as I begin to test the offspring all I can say is you can find fowl just as good, but you won't find any better. Tom's birds are bred tight, they are set like no families I have seen before, and they don't need no crossing to impress. You REALLY can't go wrong with his birds. This is SK I'm talking about and I have his Clement grey, his Mels and some of hisbrownred blood.

Yeah, mine didnt come direct from Tom. So they may not have been. But I remember they had blue legs and bright creme colored hackles.

Prob cause of the moore blood- they are like de-clawed baby kittens to handle but dont be fooled by this , they hate another rooster like no other !! Im not speaking for just the hargus blood, only the jm blood i have been around .but im pretty certain thats where it comes from..

    Re: tom hargus greys

Did a search and saw this thread. Seen his greys shown at several different locations. Very good birds, if not the best greys I've seen shown and yes, very well natured. Very powerful, excellent cutters, finishers and always dangerous, even when cut down. I always liked watching them show.
