Yes he's a stag. Very easy to tell once they start getting a little color. Pullets won't have red on their bodies and the top two tail feathers have a little curve to them, also he has a huge comb for a youngun. Good luck with him.

Now Chad that one is a little hard to tell the picture is a little small. I'd lay 60 it's a stag though.

I sure hate that we lost so many of the pics of the good lookin mugs on this thread. I have enjoyed reading this and seeing everybody's pics they post. Del I called you a little while back about getting some pullets to cross with my muletrain hatch and greys. I know everybody is enjoying this cooler than normal weather so far startin out in August.

This is a 100% stag. He's already got shiny hackles and saddle feathers.

The Kelley and Hall mugs look much the same as mine. Mine have a tiny bit of grey in them and a grey neck or a smokey blue may turn up occasionally.

I have one cock and two old hens. The ones with grey in them have proven to be great fowl. Some of the best I've raised. I have many with 1/128th grey or less. Won't be many years and it'll be in all of them. My original mug hen had a tiny bit of Speeder grey in her. So actually they've always had grey since I got them. 54 years ago.

To me those ones with the grey were some of the best looking cocks I've seen in a long time

Mr. Mack, haven't seen your birds firsthand but they look more broad and power built than most any Mugs I ever saw.

I would bet you never see any signs of grey unless you cross them with something with grey in it pedigree.
