good way for beginners to start. Not too expensive and you can raise them from babies. Learning how to care for them their whole life and what to do when things happen such as treatments for different ailments. Thats how I started. And that's what I would recommend any beginner to do.

I was debating on whether to get a trio or some chicks. Can someone tell if jeremy chandler would be a good choice, I no he is honest and I heard he is a very reputable breeder, what do y'all think?

Jeremy is a great way to go.

Make sure you are set up for the chicks. They grow fast.

I have purchased crossed eggs and chicks in years past and they are good fowl.

I got over 70% hatch on the eggs I bought and he sent extra chicks when I bought them.

I have bought from Rockytop and Charlie Carr in years past as well and is all I can say is that if I needed to buy from 1 of the 3, it would be Jeremy.

Go with Jeremy, he won't do you wrong, I just ordered some eggs from him! Heard all good things about his eggs, chick and fowl. I know a few guys that got some recently and they are very satisfied to say the least.

I would go with the trio. Say it's $250 for a dozen chicks. So at 10 dozen, you are at $2,500, a price for an excellent trio.

With that trio you can get 10 dozen eggs easily in one year. But you have next year and the next year, and so on a so forth.

So go for a young trio and you can can eggs from them for many years to come. Stag and 2 pullets.

    Thanks.

Or if it's someone just starting out they could just buy 1 dozen. They always give you two or three extra's so ask for 1/2 dozen one breed and 1/2 dozen another. That way you can hopefuly raise enough of them to raise some pure and some crosses from the original $250 spent.I guess it all depends on one's particular situation.I have always bought trio's or pairs until last year when I bought a dozen Kelso chicks from Rockytop. For my $250 investment I now have three trio's and an extra stag that I'll use for crossing.

What size are your Kelso's running?

They are kinda small. I guess they should cock out around 4-08 to 5lbs ...How do you like yours so far after 2yrs?The one's I have are still young but are looking and acting promising.

They had good reviews, but I am removing them from my farm 1 by 1. I simply have better strains on my little farm and won't put my time into average fowl. I am not saying all of them are average, but all things equal with my other birds, they are just average.

If you order chicks and can raise them until they become cocks or hens, then you should be a cocker! If you can't raise them then you should be just a spectator! Game fowl isn't for your average person. Its not like having egg layers or your Rhode island red! This sport is expensive, time consuming and exhausting at times but all your hard pays off when you come home with that "win" those blue ribbons don't come cheap. Time invested is what your outcome will produce!

I have to agree with Gull. You have to be able to raise chicks until they are fully grown. Otherwise you are just a pretender.

This is my favorite part perfect gull raising them from chick to cock. It feels good to know you took the time to raise him healthy and strong!
