    Re: W.t. Greene grey

I'm curious about this also. I bought some muffs that are supposed to be straight comb. They are 7/8 Muff (a straight comb family) and 1/8 W.T. Greene grey (supposedly another straight comb family), but one of my stags is pea comb. I asked the guy I got them from and he said they should all be straight comb, and he swears there isn't any other blood in them except the W.T. Greene grey.

No such thing. Went to Mr Greene's in the 70's as a kid right up to the year he passed. One thing is a fact they want come pea. Second he may of had a Pea Comb chicken on his yard but he did not keep him very long. He was not a pea comb man at all. He had several that his friends would give him. He would take them. Most of the time he gave them to another friend. I am sure some where great birds and families. But he was old school believed in the straight comb. Me personally I like the pea breed into them. But for a fact they never have and never will if kept straight.

If u got one coming pea comb. Then at some point there was a hatch infusion. Straight Blood should come 100% straight comb.My opinion

From wat I understand about w.t. green greys is that they all come str8 comb. My Buddy has had them for decades and has never gotten a pea comb but having said that the guy u got them from could have freshened them up with a pea comb family. This will give u a pea comb every now and then.

My friend had some come chocolate. He said when they called Mr. Greene to ask about them, he wouldn't tell them why they came that color, he just told them to breed the ones that came chocolate.

    Fury,

A PC was added somewhere by someone down the line. Don't worry about it. It could be 7/8 or 15/16 WT. Still pure in my book. But the ones that are real pure without outside blood are SC.

Two straight combs can not throw a pea comb.

Again Mike is right you can have a chickens that are 99% pea comb but if you breed only straight combs the pea comb will be lost forever.
