    Rooster kills hens

I have a young Whitehackle rooster that kills every hen I put in with him or at least tries to. Never experienced that before. Any ideas or suggestions?

Stags can be rough on them. A lot of hens won't squat if not laying and stage gets more aggressive. Wait until the hens are laying eggs molt is over and then put an older hen with him. Older hens tend to squat faster than pulled. If he remains an a $$ he usually isn't mentally stable.

Thank you for that response. I'll try again after the molt. He's a damn fine rooster and would be a shame not to use him

    Re: Rooster kills hens

Put him in a pen next to 2 or 3 hens for a few weeks. Then put them in a big brood pen together. Put the stag on a short tie cord and keep and eye on him. The hens can stay out of reach if he gets rough. Good luck.

    Re: Rooster kills hens

Put him with a rooster for a little while. He'll figure out the difference and only want to kill one. Or he may be gay and just hate females. He might not to want to kill a real rooster?

Cut his spurs off if he's that valuable and put him in big brood pen with multiple hens and give hens opportunity to get out of his reach. Sometimes a room full of women can change the game lol

I use a big cage with a tie-cord at one end for the cock and let the hen run in the cage free. When she is ready she will let the cock mount her and later lay eggs.

You can try this sometime......put the Muffs on him and spar him into another cock till he's extremely tired. Pick him up and put him with the hen. Some cocks just love to hit first,I had a couple of great BC before would beat the hell out of a hen. I did what I'm telling you and it worked. Guess it let them take their edge off.

If he wants to be mean ,let him have what hes looking for something that fights back ,too many good roosters to tolerate nonsense.

Tried this method too Mr. Mack! I believe he was gay, all the hens we put him with he beat the hell out of them, didn't even make them eat. He was one of the most beautiful roosters i ever received, a pure Paul Ronole Morris Boston Roundhead, damn great little monster of a rooster, just hated the hens. He was supposed to have been replaced by Mr. Morris, but he got killed by pigs one night on a rampage(couldnt verify the markings with Mr. Morris).....never could produce anything from him...just a violent s.o.b. with women......tried everything i could as guided with and by Mr. Morris....but to no avail.....now im only down to just 1 pure Boston roundhead hen.

    Re: Rooster kills hens

Seen some stags whip on hens if put with them too early, seen some pullets eat their first clutch as they hatch. They grow and mature, and those things never show again. Put him out on a string when old enough and with plenty of yard running hens n most times it doesn't happen again. If it continues then yea, provide him the opportunity to meet his maker.
