I would put a 2 foot high divider in the middle . I would add plywood to bottom of cages. So cock has to fly up o look out . I would keep water cup up high by roost

The nest box will be in the back left of the pen.. as far as putting the water up high by roost pole is there a purpose for this or just preference?

Also I have been working on some things on my land where all of fowl will end up( which is 40 acres that my dad lives on)..so I've been busy converting my old catch pens to where it will be safe to keep them.. already has 3 electric wires around it and I nailed hog wire to the fences and buried it about 6" in the ground

    Re: Brood pen opinions

Quick question... A little off topic but I figured here is a good a place as any.. as u see I received my package from my friend... These birds were gifted to me and the cock is proven.. my question is how do I get him to gain weight? I've already wormed him and the feed I'm using is called knockout.. it's what was recommended by my friend.. he even suggested that I try to put weight on the bird.. so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Inside the cattle pen that metal roof awning would make a perfect pen or 2. Just frame it in with some 2x4's, frame you a walk in door, some wire. Easy convert. You could have at least 2 walk in brood pens. Good luck.

Yeah that's kinda what I had in mind but I was thinking more like 4 on each side considering it's 16' long and hangs over each side 6 '

I just looked at anothe pic of awning , it's huge . You could make a row of fly pens if you wanted .

Yeah it's 16' if I remember correctly from front to back and 4x4s hang over each side by 6'. But the tin hangs a foot further than the framing boards

Say Al did LaBlue tell you they had to be heavy duty to keep those mugs in. Heck of a job with pens and roosters.

Thanks.. I just have the attitude that if I'm going to do something I do it right the first time, no shortcuts.. thanks for the kind words about the fowl.. They are great birds and come from good line.. but mine don't compare to most people's on here.. I'm still learning everyday

I give you 2 years until you have more birds than any sane man would need. Just like most of the guys in here . Including me. Lol.

Everything looks great. For the future if you can make all pens so you can walk in them without getting on your knees. You will smile when you get older. Two get you a good dog or two. There is no such thing as a predator proof pen or yard. A couple good dogs are priceless. If I didn't have good dogs, I wouldn't even bother trying to raise fowl. Good luck.

    Re: Brood pen opinions

Pens you can walk in doors you can walk through with feed bucket rooster and eggs all at once are great but the most important part of a brood pen is the fowl inside.
Oh yeah you'll do a lot of the work at night so keep that in mind on future buildings.

No .. it's just something I came up with.. got the dimensions from my mentor and just went with it.. did I do something wrong ? Other than not being able to walk in them..
