Evidently your vaccine was no good as I've never seen a bird get pox twice. Although I believe wet and dry pox are two difirrent viruses.

Were you able to check for effectivity of the vaccine? Did you check for takes under the wings? Usually it shows a couple of days after vaccination....if none show up, you have to actually repeat the process. Just my thoughts...

I think what he is asking if u checked for a vac reaction at the vac site. Like smallpox there will be small scabs formed if it takes.

You can give them antibiotics to help you with the sores the body will fight the virus off on its own the antibiotics will just help them get through it

    Re: Chicks getting pox again

If it is dry pox, the antibiotic in water can help fight secondary bacterial infections such 'crd' because of lowered resistance. Eventually it will go away, though if you want to hasten its healing, a bit more effort than usual is required. You can clean the sores and affected areas twice a day with hydrogen peroxide using cotton balls. Soon after the peroxide has dried a bit, you can then apply povidone iodine. This will make it dry up faster than normal and most often it will also end up with lesser scarring.

your mortality is quite high...I've had experience having fowl pox years back...even with the vaccination in place....there were a few heads that suffered from it...though deaths were hardly negligible. I forgot to mention that you should also put multivitamins in their drinking water too soon after the antibiotic...this would help increase resistance...the one with vits A, D , E and C plus electrolytes. Chicks of 2 months old are the most susceptible...have their water supplemented with vitamins as I mentioned.
