    New to raising need help

    All help will be greatly appreciated I'm new to breeding and raising fowl my grandfather has been a cocker all his life and his health is declining so I inherited all of his stock need help identifying some of my fowl and any suggestions or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated

    Sir it is best to ask your grandfather the lines that he has and make sure to write it all down. Write all the bloodlines and their mark and also their wing and legbands if they are banded. Ask him how to care for them from feeding to rearing to ranging and cording all the way to breeding and raising them. We will gladly try to help you if it comes a time that he cant help you.

    Also check if there were any records kept of his breeding, markings, etc...

    Well as for record keeping he didn't keep any written records that I no of I do no some of my fowl I have 1 white legged Kelso cock 2 black Roundheads 1 California Dom 1 yellow legged hatch 2 pink hatch stags 1 white hatch stag and a white hatch hen I have a few I'm not sure about maybe if I upload some pics could that help? And as for banning me and granddaddy will be doing that this weekend as I will be keeping written records

    You have to check each individual fowl for so many things, health, size, configuration including the hens. Ages etc...You stick to what your grandad have and stay with in your breed. Don't involve outside gamefowls yet. You evaluate. feed them regularly and read books as much as you can, the basics and from there you can be sure you can continue the legacy, good luck amigo.
