    Fall may finally be here

It has been hot and dry here. We've been in a burn ban for a while now. But a bit of rain and some cooler temps are moving in. I know many in the south east have expierenced simular weather. Glad to see some cooler temps.

No rain in several weeks here and we are burnt to a crisp. But the temps have gone from low 90s to low 70s for highs! We were supposed to get rain today and didn't. I was hoping because I planted a lot of new stuff today. I hope I don't have to water it more than once or twice before the fall rains start.

Looking forward to anything below 90 and rain would be nice, haven't had more than a sprinkle since the hurricane. But most of all I want all the gnats to go to hell !!! .

Lol I hear ya. Last year I told my nephew I'd give him $20 for every coon or possum he killed. I have 4 big persimmon trees scattered around my 10 acres. The first night he killed 2 coons, 4 possums and a skunk. I was grinning as I paid him.

I agree with you about the gnats. Chickens heads look like crap. Feathers standing straight up on their heads from all the gnats biting them. Last month their combs were black with scabs. I have found nothing to keep them at bay. If I manage to nock them down a new crop comes in on the next breeze.

The best ive found for the knats on there heads is Corona cream. Certain times of the year i get them bad on my place and only thing seems to work is the Corona cream. Only downside to it is u need to apply it every couple days which can b a chore in itself. Ive heard people say to put red buckets or paint gallon jugs red and rub grease on them and the knats are attracted to the red color ans will stick to the grease but ive never tried this to know for sure if it works or not but it may be something for u to try

Thanks for the advice. I have tried the bucket trick and it caught them but not enough to notice a difference. I'm so close to the salt marsh on the gulf that a new crop blows in every day. The Corrona salve may help. They should get stuck in it and heal faster to. I'll give it a try.

we had knats for about a month when it was still raining. The corona applied once a week kept every thing doctored ok. Good stuff.

The cool weather was sure nice for me but I felt sorry for a couple of my birds. They had held their feathers late and moulted all at once and was really bare feathered when the cool night hit. They was sure drawed up and cold in the morning without their feathered jacket to keep them warm. I bet they shoot some body feathers in a hurry now. lol

We have a front coming in Friday. This weekend the high is only going to hit the upper 80s. 87 on Saturday. Lows in the high 60s. I'm jealous now but come January not so much.

Re: Fall may finally be here

We got 1" of rain yesterday! I had to go on a trip and it looked like we'd only get a half inch. It rained some more in the night. Today I got back and planted a small tree and had to use a pick. The soil is gonna need a looong time to soften up again. We are on rocky clay. Where I planted the tree is a rich spot and I didn't think I'd need the damn pick . . .

Had been four weeks since our previous rain.
