Another great cocker passed, RIP Mr. Russell Poole!

With a sad heart, I would like to inform the fraternity of the passing of George Russell Poole of Rougemont, NC. Here's a copy of his Orbituary:

"Mr. George Russell Poole, 92, passed away late Tuesday, May 28th, at Roxboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Poole was born in Orange County, NC, on August 21, 1920, to John Lee Poole and Allie Tilley Poole, who predeceased him as did his siblings from that union Kathleen, Rufus, James, Mike, and Tom. He also was predeceased by his stepmother, Mildred Schofield Poole and in 2000 by his wife of 58 years, Hazel Barbee Poole.
Mr. Poole lived in Rougemont for over 91 years until his health forced him to move to Caswell House Assisted Living in February 2012 and then to Roxboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in July 2012.

Prior to retirement in 1985, Mr. Poole was a cattle and tobacco farmer.

As a young man, Mr. Poole was an avid fox hunter. He also loved to bird hunt and owned both a pack of prized fox hounds and several bird dogs. Later, when the deer population began to explode in North Carolina, he hunted deer and owned deer dogs. He continued to hunt well into advanced years. Mr. Poole also owned game chickens, and when it became difficult to fox and deer hunt due to development and his age, he devoted a great deal of his time to his chickens much to the dismay of both his wife and daughter. Following the death of his wife when he was 80 years old, his daughter recognized that the chickens provided him with something to do, kept him active, and probably helped add years to his life.

Mr. Poole is survived by his daughter, Linda P. Hicks and her husband Joseph of Roxboro, NC; his grandchildren, Johanna Blood and her husband Bill of Alpharetta, GA, and Joel Hicks and his wife Stephanie of Zebulon, NC; and his great grandchildren, Billy Blood, Kassidy Denton, and Garrett Hicks. He is also survived by his sisters, Hilda Ladd of Roxboro, NC, Alma (Scrumpy) Stalls of Aberdeen, NC, Patricia Russell of Rougemont, NC, and Karen Kerrick and her husband Lew of Aurora, CO.

Visitation for Mr. Poole will he held at Brooks and White Funeral home on Wednesday, June 5th at 1:00 PM with a memorial service officiated by Reverend David Chambers following at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to make a donation, the family suggests either Chances Angel Rescue & Education (C.A.R.E.), 1793 Stoney Mountain Road, Rougemont, NC 27572 or Feathers & Fins, c/o Roxboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation, 901 Ridge Road, Roxboro, NC 27573.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ralph Corey and Dr. Ruth Ann Greenfield for the outstanding care they provided to Mr. Poole for many years and to the employees at Roxboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation for taking such excellent care of Mr. Poole, being so kind to him, and making his final days as comfortable as possible."

Thank you GRP for giving use the opportunity to carry on your Bruner, Blueface, Grey, and Alabama Roundhead bloodlines! It's been an honor!!!
