My stepfather has done pretty well crossing a RI Red over some White Leghorns. Very good layers but not too broody, gotta find other means to hatch them if you’re looking to raise. Some will set, but mostly just enough to ruin the eggs.

Actually I would google a good hatchery for white leghorns. I have thought of getting some so I can eat the eggs and possibly sell some. I have looked at Mcmurray and they have a wide selection of many breeds. Not sure if you could carry on the breed to the best as criteria would change. Probably just as easy to order chicks every year

I have a few Orpington to hatch and rear some eggs. This season was the 1st time I try it. So far so good. In the past Iíll get white broilers so when big birds of pray come down they target the white ones and it works. The meat is good and so are the eggs.
