The first two greys are beautiful. Do you have any stags available?

I have done the same thing. I love working the birds but when they take the fun out of it I don't keep them around long. One of the greys has been great the whole time and the rest have come around. That still doesn't get them a tiecord on my yard. Only the one has any chance of a brood pen. If he makes it and his sons are mean I will be out of the grey business. Not worth it to me.

A true man fighter is obvious once he crows , that's his fault . Anything else and later on is your fault . Handing kids axes to kil roosters that hit you is freaky

If you are talking to me; I wouldn't wish these greys on an enemy. They have what it takes but you can find some that are easily handled and just as good. The average of these fight you the first week of the keep. They are game and bottom is as good as any I have ever seen but still not worth going through the man fighting for.

Ive been a grey man my whole life ans id say 95 % were mean as snakes . After all these years i have finally found a family of greys taht are gentle as kittens and can carry the mail all day long . They are just an absolute pleasure to b around . Those kind of fowl grey or red are a pleasure to own .

Most them mean roosters just gonna make you earn their respect. It takes a good bit of patience and a willingness to ignore all the biting. Positioning him and clearing your own mind of getting upset over it helps, keep rubbing him down n talking to him while ignoring him and they will usually let up on the fire. When they are coming off the roost at your head or every time you pitch them down they try shuffling up your leg or they hit wire try to get to you and you’ve never provoked them or lost your temper at them, those are off in the head and cant be fixed and are a danger. I prefer those who take to it quick and are easy handlers as much as anyone, but got a place for them biters too, you just gotta decide you’re ok with it or not. Funny thing, a rooster that gets sick or injured and gets a lot of attention and handling, those are usually easy handlers in no time, even from a biting family, reckon what’s the difference, him, you or both?

Yes he is a nice one. Have you noticed any difference in the hatch colored ones and the pumpkin colored ones. This pumpkin colored one seems a lot more aggressive than his brother's.

No they all seem to be the same to me. They are very good and seldom lose one. Really made some pretty hatch mugs using the pumpkin colored. Also very good.

    Re: 2020 show cocks

The very first one that ever come pumpkin when he was about 4 months old got in a fight with a mug stag about a lb bigger than him. When I got home I found him with his head swoll up and he had his leg half torn off from whooping on the mug. It crippled him for life. He had his bill in the dust and was crowing about every minute. I put him in a pen left him in there for a week or so. When I let him out he went straight to the closest cock. Still mad. He made a great brood cock and threw about 50% pumpkins. They still come many especially if you breed to that color.

Tnk you Lablue. If Romero Hatch mated to ur hatch. In my neck of woods. We call them “throwback”

    Maybe I was taught wrong.

Comes from Mr. Mac's side what ever it is.

I love to read your stories about mean birds.... I guess it's different here because anybody can get equally if not better birds from another breeder after getting rid of the meanest bird in town.... most cocker in my nick of the woods in the island will put up with these mean birds no matter how mean because as my farm manager says " that's imported Boss , hard to replace , and if you can't stand his meanness, I will handle him, leave him to me ".........

I am different. My skin is thin and my pacience is not that good. I'm very slow and know fowl as well as any old cocker. I wear gloves and if I have a mean one I'll wear sleeves. After 4 days and they still hate me, that's it I'll save time money and many scrapes and bruised.

I really didn't mind a mean rooster way back when I was Starting out and A Lot Younger. Now a days it's just a Distraction and throws the rest of them off. But I don't mind a rooster to be a little Spunky, usually calms down during the keep.

Most bennetts I ever trained started out a little mean but tamed down in a day or two but boy they always made it worth it in long run
