Re: big bones vs small bones
from what little I know, most pure dark fowls are heavy boned and this causes them to be bulkier and weigh heavier. this may also be the reason why they are mostly ground fighters.

Re: big bones vs small bones
from my experiances "pure" are often inbred (from my experiances) and when you cross and get new blood they seem to get thicker bones which cause them to have a better build but thats just me

Re: big bones vs small bones
im no chicken expert or anything but yea i think lighter bones would be able to move quicker and thicker bones would be able to have more power to them, what kind of birds do you have?(:

Re: big bones vs small bones
i bought a jap from a guy and i ended up with black, blue, and a couple white chicks so im guessing he is crossed with some minor blue but he looks strait jap, oerientals have alot of power and you should tell how thick their legs are (my birds legs are thick anyways" brownreds have some speed so they should have an uptail and look really.."atheltic" i think thats the word im looking for, is that what your looking to cross?

Re: big bones vs small bones
ive already crossed them, but brownred cock i have has a really thick legs lol really fast on the ground, but the offsprings brownredxhamlinasil their legs came out in the middle not to skinny not to heavy and very well structured. and the jap/hamlin still to young to tell...but was just trying to understand the disadvantages and advantages of them being heavy boned and light boned...

Re: big bones vs small bones
Are you talking about legs as in their thighs or the scaly shanks??? The skinny shanks are speed birds. The thick shanked ones have more power. If the thigh muscle is thick then that'll give you more power. The thigh part of the leg should be longer than the length of the shank. The farther apart the legs are the better the cutting.
