Re: Thanks to these Bacolod friends
More proof of my addiction to beautiful farms, haha.
Perspiring, and sunburned, I walked to join my pals back to Joery's place.
But the boxes to place the bought stags had not arrived. Dunno how i got the extra energy, but I rode on the back of Tata's motorcycle, and rode off to see the farm in front of the Graveno brothers.
Naisahan ko sila JP, Gilbert, Randy, Louie and Eman, hehe.. Without them in tow, I had gone to one of the several areas of Multi-Champion Allan Siaco.
Just rows and rows of whites, brassbacks, golds, sweaters...... All so beautiful ...

So, it was with that lone frustration last year that we just had to return there a year later. C.U. wasnt there but his boys were very accomodating, and must have sparred around 60 birds. Funny, cuz rain threatened to cut the selection short. I asked how many birds there were in their 3 farms, and they said nearly 2000 pieces. What a monthly feed bill that must be !
Up, up , almost near heaven was Mr Uychiat's resthouse, with a swimming pool continuously fed by mountain water. I tested the water, and boy, it was cold. One doesnt need genius genes to opine that the birds in this breeder's private and special place would contain his super favorites.
4X Winner favorite.
Need I say that my friends are coming back after the moult.

Just to add some more pics from our visit to Mr. Uychiat's farm...

One of my favorite places to go whenever in Bacolod, Fred Malabago's Farm... Always warm and accommodating in his own special way... The fresh picked coconut was a pleasant surprise as well!

Re: Thanks to these Bacolod friends
A most warm welcome. Smiles from the breeder as well as the helpers. Jokes around the clock. Having complete run of the place. Walang taguan. Such is the feeling when we go visit Fred Malabago, and more important than him.... ( hehe) his birds.
Examples of our kantiyawan back and forth....
Fred jokes that we cant get any "suki discount" cuz he heard from others how his black and hiraw stags won 80% with us in San Juan. I counter by saying that the handler was the only reason they won.
I joke that next time they win, we wont text anymore the results. Fred says that if we come back again, he knows they won, hehe.
JP likes to bring home the super-ace broodcock that Fred obligingly spars for us. Fred quips that next time we come, no more sparring of the broodfowl, itatago raw nya lahat. haha.
On and on and on. Such a nice feeling to come back to.
Visiting negros isnt just about the birds.... The friends you make is sooooo important. Winning with these friends' birds seem to be easier.
Ooooops. If I'm gushing about Fred, its not becuz I m making a sales pitch.
In fact, I also told him I shouldnt be writing about him. One of the victims of his black stags in San Juan was trying to get stags even ahead of us. I should stop writing about this, lest the price goes up, or buyers beat us to them. But even then, we'd still probably go to Fred for the jokes and the stories.
Another Fred M. dirty grey
Guess we have to come back for these younger guys:
An experimental white.... hmmmm

you are right kuyang chito, it's not all about the birds but the friendship and hospitality of our bacolod friends. another thing that i noticed and admired with them is that they will not think twice to refer their neighbors chicken to you if you don't like their own. i've been also to some of the backyards in concepcion and it's really nice feeling hopping from 1 backyard to another. back riding in a motorcycle is fun as well especially going to the road passing by Toliz farm...

Re: Thanks to these Bacolod friends
..................we've been sparring the whole morning in Joery Graveno's farm in sta.cruz. I've gone thru even the ranges, the breeding pens, etc.
Not yet regular breeding time, so the pullets were all there ....
You guys may want a set-up like this....

Surely, a chicken buyer or afficionado will have satisfied his eyes already and cleaned out his buying budget just visiting the thousands of small and big farms in the nearer towns before Kabankalan. So, why go this far? For some knowlegeable cockers, it may very well be to visit the brothers BingBong and Jun-Jun DIANONGCO.
I 've been hearing from my Montalban townmates including Ex-Mayor Lito San Diego about these acquired KBN(Kabankalan) stags that scored very well in the Bakbakan Finals in araneta. Then, some weeks ago, it buzzed in SanMateo Cockpit that our present-Mayor E. H. just acquired 70 stags from this breeder. Then, JohnPaul further informed me that the owner of a SanJuan Derby Regular acquired 30 pieces. Also, when we were buying stags in Concepcion and Murcia, the breeders were all telling us that JunJun D. had very good birds. Not even a single bad opinion from his peers. Naturally, my interest increased even more.
That did it for me. I just HAD to see what these veteran cockers were buying.
So, even when half of my friends had gone back to Manila a day earlier, off to KBN I went.
One cant just walk inside uninvited to a farm. Good thing my mayors had texted Jun-Jun D. ahead of time. And, he was a friend of Cedreq Farm Manager Dodoy, so we got the green light. Here's what we saw:
Amiable Jun-Jun Dianongco graciously allowed me to interview him. From his 700 stag production last season, only 6 pieces left as bullstags. He now produced 850. 99% of his birds are reds. Bodlats, Hi-Action Hatches and RED Gamefarm sweaters and their combinations. That's it. Only 6 golds made, and 4 had been bought already. Less than 6 off colors remaining in the whole farm. All his birds are uniform. Jun-Jun said he has very few stags that reach 2 kgs. Uniformly medium-high stationed with pencil-thin legs. Really good-looking. So nice to see them in rows, like identical xerox copies. Price? these birds cost PHP 8000 each. Goes down to 7000 if one buys 20 or more pieces. Still sells them out despite premium pricing.
I was fortunate and unlucky at the same time last July 9.
JunJun had just picked up the handlers of a promoter in Kaybiga. They were getting 40 pieces that day. So, they were the ones in the hot sun who pre-selected and sparred their candidates, while I comfortably watched from the hut. How was the sparring? No exaggeration. Those stags snapped and hit beyond their young ages.
Why was I unlucky? The buyers were taking so much time, we had to rush to get to silay airport. It would have been fun to talk more to JunJun over their wonderful coffee brew or even visit his brother BingBong's farm just beside.
I can see myself going back. And certainly, I hope I can bet on those stags when i chance upon them in the pit.

Re: Thanks to these Bacolod friends
SMALL Operation but very CAPABLE.
M o s t of the time, PMs sent to me ask about the backyards, where and how much? Some friends cant really afford the premium stag prices of 5T to 8T , so invariably, the tropa seeks out the backyards.
Its my strong opinion that one can get battlefowl from these smaller but very capable breeders. (Check out my other thread, THIS IS BACKYARD? ) . But, for broodfowl, there are a lot of crossed-up, performance-based and gut-feel matings that emphasize present-day commercial sales, so I caution friends to be wary.
Go check out the birds we see all over Negros.
Not A.S. A cheaper brassback in alangilan.
In Sta Cruz, a white bullstag at the back of a very big farm. Ganda ng itsura, hipo at bitaw. But, I was politely turned down NOT FOR SALE.
Economical set-up. Good looking Dom nonetheless.

Is this the one at the back of Narwin Javellosa's farm? hehehe i recall they had about 200 heads that they sold in one lot for dirt cheap price that time.
