Whilst ignorance of the Law is not an excuse, the person must commit the offence with a 'guilty mind'. As for the term battle cocks, in an historical context it was a term mostly applied to first crosses or combinations thereof. Commercial egglaying strains when advertised are often referred to as hybrids for example. Battle cocks is merely an older generic term for hybrids. The point between exercise and training for combat is 'many shades of grey'.
