Nite Guard

Was just wondering if anyone has used Nite Guard to try to keep varmints off of their yard and the results of using it.

For years we had a terrible owl imfestation, installed the modules in four corners and have not lost anything to night predators in the last two years.

I have eight around my yard. I'm not saying they 100% cure all, but I raised more than I ever have do to the lack of varmit kills. I have them on hooks and rearrange them every so often. I try point them at trees where young ones roost & top of string walk drums.

My friend uses the 12 volt flashing (strobe) lights (white or clear lens) like they install on vehicles like garbage trucks. They'll protect a big area so most folks wouldn't need more than one or two. They have replaceable bulbs that last a long time in the weather. You can get one at most any truck supply place for about $100. Then go to the electric supply place and get a 110 volt AC to 12 volt DC power converter (maybe $40-50) to power the light, or lights, with an extension cord. They are bright and Owls absolutely will not come around it. Don't think the flashing lights help much with four legged varmits because they get used to it. He used to lose 70% of the hatch to owls, but no more, hasn't lost a chick to owls since the light was installed 3 years ago, still have problems with coons and possums now and then that the dogs have to take care of, but the owls are no longer a factor. It works great, I think any flashing light messes up their eyesight and they'll stay clear of them.

I have a one acre compound surrounded with 2x4 5 feet tall woven wire fencing and 3 strands of hot wire, one at the ground level and 2 at the top. I also have 8 nite guards, each hanging from a string and at different levels from the ground.

The nite guards seem to work! Knock on wood, compared to last year, I have lost very few, if any this year. My property is rural and there are definetely coyotes, raccoons,possums, hawks and owls.

Yes, they will help. Also solar lights, the kind you get in the L&G section at Wal-Mart. I have 1 at every corner of my lot, also at 50ft intervals. These will help tremendously with any kind of varmit trouble.

nite guards work very well....but only on night time feeders...it will be one of your best investments.....they save many more birds than the cost of the light...

I been using nightguard for years. it works great. You can also use blinking christmas lights. There all it is well a blinking light that night time varmints thinks it is other varmint watching them.

To guard against owls, I had to go to strobe lights from Granger's, 1,000,000 candlepower..powered by 110v we had them on blind doors at work to avoid collision. Only problem the neighbors thought a UFO had landed...like a flash bulb going off constantly. GP dog for the rest.....

the nite guard works best for owls they havent deterred the racoons much though i put some around my cord areas to protect my cocks at night

I used them years ago and they worked alright. I have a bunch of GP's now and they work the best, No loss to any predator winged or fur in the yards. I recomended the night guards to a friend who was having lots of owl problems and he bought some and put them up. About a week latter he sent me a picture of an owl killed stag right in front of one of the posts he had a night guard on. So youll just have to try them. They are solar powered, make sure you get enough of them and intsall them the way the company recomends them. You can goggle night guard and buy direct but I think Jeffers sells them cheaper.

How high ya got them set up? I never place any over 6ft high. I normally place them around 2ft - 4ft off the ground. In my opinion that would make varmints think its a dog watching them. LOL

i have them on a pole about 12 feet high on all 4 sides they stopped the owls they was getting a hen every night untill then

Ok. Preciate that kywolf. My steel traps been doin me pretty good on four legged critters. Just found a fox this morning in one of my sets.

your surely welcome.its a good idea to keep traps out,its best to get the varmits before they become a problem.

If you got them killing your fowl already you have to eliminate them first. Varmit going keep coming for easy meal once they start.

I think thats whats been cleaning out my rabbits. I raise them as well to train my beagles on. Seems like they dont last a week and my dogs dont get much action on em. I keep my chickens under my oak trees for shade and a beagle on a runner through the middle of em. Other than my brood pens but there stationary so something would need to b verry hungry to go threw the trouble of gettin one of those and able to get em 6 feet high off the roost.
