I feed my chicks and all were fine then I went back an hour later and six were died. They have plenty of food and water and is the same feed I have been feeding what's wrong?

Re: Chicks dying
They might of choke to death, When feeding them give them small amounts, don't just throw them the whole feed at once.

How old are they? Did any of them act sick before you give them feed?

Do you have them all in the same cage?

Re: Chicks dying
make sure the feed is not getting too dry and chalk like "white". they will carry their wings really low then die on too dry feed

Re: Chicks dying
If you're feeding baby chicks properly and not overfeeding to choke, giving the right amount, giving specified feed for chicks, and they're dying on you? Then we need to look at other areas. What have worked for me, since I'm uncertain of identifying whether its a digestive, respiratory, or vitamin defiency that putting the chicks to their misery. I get me a broad-spectrum antibiotic and vitamin/minerals/electroyles, mixed the bags together and give them 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water, until they're 3 months.
Good Luck

Re: Chicks dying
I had a couple of incindents like this in previous years, they were both concluded to be poison. If you fumigated or threw poison for anything somewhere and they come in contact with it. The newly hatched are very susceptible to poison that wouldn't do a thing to a 2 month old. Just something to keep in mind.

Re: Chicks dying
Could be a bad batch of feed was this out of a new bag? A friend of mine lost 100+ in two days due to bad feed he changed the feed and they stopped fallin over. Also how hot did it get in your brooder this time of year they will smother each other easy and if they got too hot the will drop like flies.

Re: Chicks dying
I had the same thing happen yesterday. They were four weeks old. Hadfresh water. Plenty of feed. Came out the house at about 4 in the evening 5 were dead I noticed these were 5 of the bigger ones that had growed quicker. 7 more died that day an five more last night. An looks like another 5 or six might die

Re: Chicks dying
Up! i'll be hatching a lot this month of march. i will not be seperating them with their mom so the survival rate will be a little bit higher. i want to know what causes this deaths in case it happens to my chicks. So I can prevent it. Thanks.
